PowerDirector 21 » "Specified folder is invalid, " Error setting Appl Manager path pref to D drive » Go to message

I want to install PowerDirector on my D drive which is an external usb drive. When I go into application manager and try to set the install path to this drive I get:

"Specified folder is invalid, incomplete or write protected"

I've installed other software on D and have to because of limited space on my C drive. Does PowerDirector require installation on C?
