Dafydd,

Hi thanks for the reply...I did exactly that, install the update patch after I sent my inquiry email. I'll play around with it a few days and then post back.

On a side note, why is PD7 so prone to frequent crashes ? A bit annoying at times especially if I've forgotten to save my project after some involved video editing,

Ray

Quote: Hi Ray,
Thank you for naming the version and build numbers of PD7 - excellent bit of information.

Before looking into your problem any further I'd like you to install an update patch v3017
http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/support/powerdirector/patches_en_US.html

Post again the results - my guess is most/all issues will be resolved.

Quote: I have PD Deluxe 7 version 7.00.1714 installed on my laptop running Windows Vista.
I have a few issues with regards to the volume when editing video clips. When I import the windows media video files into the master video track for editing the video the sound track sometimes does not accompany the video clip. If I play the wmv clip with windows media player the sound can be heard.

Another problem occurs when after importing a wmv into the master video track and after editing, the sound can't be heard during playback of the edited clip in the master video track.

I can import several wmv files into one project edit them and some will have volume while some others won't ?

I've checked to ensure the volume is not muted or turned down.

Can you advise,

Thanks,
Ray

Babdi,

You did not cause confusion...I'm easily confused with no help at all
Thanks for your help once again.

You have the option to package the project while you save so that you get only edited, trimmed version. Here is how you do it.
1) Click director's chair
2) File > Export > Pack project materials
3) Bring the packed, saved project files back to a new project time line

Babdi,

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, please help !

Here is my scenario:
Trimmed several movies and saved as individual projects.
Opened each individual project and followed your instructions for file, export and pack materials saved to a folder outside of PD7 (I used a folder in my documents).
Opened new project and dragged pds file (packed project material) onto timeline where it showed edited movie.
Dragged second packed project material pds file onto timeline and I'm asked if "I would like to merge your projects media library file with the current media files in this library" I click yes. The first edited clip disappears and the second edited file shows on the timeline. I get the same results if I import the packed project files to the library. It always seems to override the previous clip.
I can't figure out how to merge two or more edited clips together onto the timeline to save to a file or burn on a DVD.

Could you be more explicit...

Please advise,
Ray

Okay...thanks I'll give that a try.

Quote: Smaller individual projects for a large final production is a good idea in general.
I suggest you render each project to a mpeg2 file then make one final project, import the individual mpeg2 files and then produce DVD.

PJC,

Thanks for your advice. As you can see I have a couple of options and I will try both to see which one works the best.

On another note, I have a portable storage hard drive that I would like to basically copy the same Movie Clips (as a project once I figure that out) that I intend to burn onto the DVD.
What's your recomendation to saving this project to view in a WMV or AVI format.

Thanks,
Ray

Babdi,

First, many thanks for your input but I need some clarification.

Can I still go back and open my individual projects that have already been trimmed and follow your instructions above ? Do I create a folder to place all the "pack project material files" and then bring them to the library or directly to the project time line ?

Thanks,
Ray
I edited a bunch of movie files and made them into individual projects. I'd now like to merge the projects together and burn a DVD. I can't figure out how to merge the edited clips. When I drag all the projects into the library and then move them down to the timeline, I get the original long versions of the movie files.

My reason for the individual projects was that I could later place the clips in any order prior to burning on a DVD.

Can someone advise me on how to accomplish this.

Thanks,
Ray

Jeff,

Thanks for the feedback !

Ray
Let me elaborate - I've edited a bunch of WMV files using PD7 into smaller movie clips and would like to piece them together and burn them onto a DVD in a high quality resolution.

How can I estimate how much content will fit onto a 4.7gb DVD ? Do I just add up the file sizes of all the clips and keep it just below 4.7gb?

Thanks in advance,
Ray
Thanks Barry !!!
First let me say that this software is awesome !

I'd like to be able to share a slideshow produced by PD7 online. Can anyone suggest any free websites that family and friends could view my slideshows in.

I would prefer a site that would have private access to whomever I desire.

Thanks in advance.

Quote: After you have discovered that your MarkIn spot is in the wrong place, just put a MarkOut spot in approximately the place you want it. You can than drag the ends of the blue band to wherever you want the MarkIn and MarkOut spots to be.

Robert

Robert,
Thanks for your input, that worked real good.

Ray
When in Multi trim mode, is there a way to undo a mark in spot ? I'll elaborate on this. When trimming a video for editing, I sometimes set my mark in spot and in the process of looking for a mark out spot, I realize that I should have have set the mark later in the clip. I have not figured out a way to undo this mark. The only way around this that I've found is to add a mark out spot any where beyond the mark in and then delete that segment. I then have to go back and find the spot that I would rather set the mark in spot. This turns out to be a little time consuming and I would rather right click or something on the red marker and just scroll a little to the right and find the preferred mark in spot.

Thanks in advance.
