I have PD9 and it uses 8 threads of i7-2600K
Very impressive Mingy, but I think you will find you could have saved on RAM , I though there was something wrong with my RAM so I loaded up my PC with

Render HD File
Watch DVD
Watch TV via Tuner card
run full virus scan

CPU was 100% on 8 threads

and could barely scrape past 4G mem usage.

Is there another RAM test you know of that will check if all RAM can be utlised?

Better to have it than not I suppose for future apps.

Must mention all chugged along nicely.
Hi Can concur on RAM usage - I just got a new PC i7-2600K - 8gb RAM. Produced a video (60 min of Full HD 60fps) and RAM usage barely cleared 2GB. Thought something was wrong so I loaded up the PC -

Producing HD Video
Watching DVD
Watching TV on Winfast PVR2 Tuner card
Run full virus scan

All at the same time

PC chugged along nicely and just got over 4GB mem usage while CPU was on 100% on all 8 cores.

My thoughts 6-8GB more than enough and 4 will do nicely.

I started a thread a couple of months ago re hardware for PD9
Long story short - ended up with Sandy Bridge i7-2600K - Onboard Intel HD3000 Graphics - Win7 64 bit - 8Gb RAM. DX Diag attached.

I produced a file to DVD HQ (containing 60 minutes of Full HD 60 fps) in a little under 17 minutes.

With PD8 and my old PC (dual core E8400 Windows XP 32 bit) this took well over an hour - closer to two hours if I remember correctly but I'm not going back to retest .

So the combination of new hardware plus the software to take advantage of it obviously has payed off - No I am not employed by either Intel or Cyberlink - just a happy camper for now.

I'll reserve judgement on other aspects of PD9 for now as have only just started playing with it.

Would appreciate if someone could view the DX Diag and advise as I have only just received this PC. I am running the latest patch of PD9 9.0.0.2504.

Thanks
Mac
@Philip,
Thanks for that will keep an eye out for Lucid. Looks like a way ahead if the Intel graphics are not what is reported.

No thanks to intel though for making what looks like a great CPU then locking it all up and have one of their subs (Lucid) make money out of unlocking it.

PS I'd go shopping today except the "K" version is not out in Australia yet -
@James W
Further reading indicates if you install a GPU card the onboard graphics are disabled. ie you have to rely on the quality/specs of the external GPU.
From what I can gather this is only an issue for high end gaming.
That said I'm thinking now
i7-2600K (HD 3000 graphics with better overclocking if required)
H67 motherboard for the Intel graphics. (no external GPU).
If I ever feel the need for some serious gaming it's just a matter of installing a GPU (and maybe extra power wattage)
Or as usually happens this new PC will get handed down to my son and he can buy the GPU
He's getting my current one as he has already loaded some game on it that won't work on the last PC I gave him.

Thanks all for the input - much appreciated
I think I'm more confused now - have to stop reading bench test sites and just go and buy something I think

If I read this correctly if a separate GPU is installed - then you can't use or access QuickSync? Does this mean you have to have buy the H67 motherboard rather than the P67 and no separate GPU at all?
Or if the P67 is installed then a higher end GPU is still required to get the performance.

If the PC was required to run games as well would it be possible to install a GPU and have it shutdown so the QuickSync works for Video Rendering etc.
Does anyone know if these new processors do away with the need for a high end GPU card (more$) = higher rated power supply = more$
Eg can all the processing can be done on the CPU and a low end card for display purposes only.
Reading other forums mainly gaming where there is a need for all this high end stuff seems to suggest you can't pick and choose where the processing is done on the new chips and a high end GPU is still required ?
Does Cyberlink have an opinion on this.

Thanks Again

PS that said I'm still thinking of getting the new i5-2500 as bench tests seem to indicate it is almost as good as the current high end i7-9xx
Thanks All - Some good info here - might wait a couple of weeks myself to see what happens when Sandy Bridge hits the shelves.
Hi ,
Have been having issues lately with burning DVD's for use in DVD players - not PC. After burning and verifying I play the DVD in either a DVD player or the PC and seem to have no issue. Then I apply a label (DVD Stomper) to jazz it up a little before giving it to friends, family etc. The DVD seems to work OK for them for a while but sometimes just locks up and won't play - very embarassing?
Have tried different brand DVD's (always DVD-R as I'm told these are compatible with more players than DVD+R) same issues. Anyone have these problems - I'm thinking it might be the labels unbalancing the DVD?

Might DVD+R be better?

Have also tried different DVD burning software than other PD (eg IMGBurn) same issues.

Thanks

Hi,
Have been using PD for some years currently on PD8 Ultra (3022). Since moving to new camera and HD it has become apparent I need a system upgrade to make use of HD files and PD9. (System too slow working with HD files) Current DXdiag attached.
What I am after is hints , comments, suggestions etc re new hardware
(The only thing I do with the PC other than basics is video production -home stuff , not professional - so want to keep the costs down)

I have in mind

Intel i7 (any speed) for the Hyperthread technology (Extra question here- if I go for i5 (no hyperthread) does PD9 still make use of the 4 available cores or does it need Hyperthread? ie if no hyperthread does PD9 only use one core?)

Win7 Home premium 64 bit

min 8Gb RAM

nvidia video card - not sure which yet but don't want to overspec hence overspend - thinking of the GT430 1GB as seems reasonably priced.

Any comments welcome as well around anything AMD Processor/ATI RADEON GPU as these also seem reasonably priced compared to INTEL/NVIDIA. Anyone with any issues on this hardware with PD9?

Thanks
Looks OK when burnt to folder and played from there. maybe I need some better quality DVD's
Hi,
I have recently moved to HD video (Sanyo Xacti) and I notice after burning a DVD that it comes out dark when played back on TV. The original HD mpg file plays fine on the PC.
I am running PD8 - soon moving to PD9, and have really only noticed this since going to HD. I put the mpg file in a separate PD project and burn from there at slowest speed 4x. Anyone have similar experience?

Thanks
