Good stuff Jeff and Bif,

I have been coasting with my video and photo capabilities based on cameras like the Canon G3, Panasonic DMC-LX2, and my ‘old’ Canon Optura mini DV tape based. My son is using the Nikon D90 SLR and there are a dozen other video and digital cameras in our tribe.

This thread is helping me to bring myself up-to-date by forcing further research… very much appreciated and probably my last one – I am getting too old for this. Keep the information coming, I am sure others are following with some interest.

Cheers,
Boris
From my research so far it would appear that systems are getting optimized in pairs for best results:
1) Intel and nVidia, or
2) AMD and ATI

Back to more research... ain't it fun !!

Cheers,
Boris
Thanks Bif

I located your post and see that the video card and drivers are going to be a significant factor in this research. My Pentium 4 (2.80Ghz) is adequate for the videos that I have tackled to date but the advent of HiDef is changing the system demands by a large leap.

Like you my interests are video and photography mainly the family type and, I am 80, it is mainly about kids and grandchildren.

Anyone with ideas can jump in anytime.

Cheers,
Boris
I am gathering information for a planned Christmas upgrade to an Intel Quad-core system and Windows XP Pro.

1) Does PD7 take advantage of a Quad core?

2) Anyone has some suggestions as to what is good or bad for a completely new desktop?

Thanks for sharing your experience,
Boris
Yes, they provided me with a link and key.

Resolved by direct contact with Support.

I first installed the trial version then, on the following day, purchased and downloaded the full version and installed that (after first uninstalling the trial).

I am wondering now if there was something left over from that initial install that is "hanging around" causing the mayhem.

One issue remaining on my recent PD7 download purchase.

When I registered PD7 on September 27, i got an email stating
"Sign in now to the CyberLink Members Zone and download a FREE burning software as our token of appreciation!"

I registered in this member zone on the 28th I think.

I HAVE YET TO FIND THIS OFFERING... where do I look for it??

Cheers,
Boris
Quote: It's very possible that even though you think the program has shut down, it is hanging in the background. One way to check this is to use
ctrl alt delete. Your task manager pops up. Look in the processes tab of this box and look for a program running (something like PDR.exe) or something like that. highlight that and choose end task. Then see if you can open PD.

Yes - there was an entry PDR.exe 32,692 K
I terminated it, then PD7 loaded up properly

How do I solve this... short of going in there each time?

Boris
PS - this occured after my fresh re-install which did not solve the problem.
I did not have a chance to check Task Manager - I took the previous advice and I have removed and currently doing a complete reinstall - will let you know if problem resolved.

A fe wmore details might help.
1) What OS do you have?
2) Are you running with multiple user accounts?
3) Has someone else logged on or switched users during this period that you are away?
4) If you log off and then back on does that correct your issue or must you power down completely.

Jeff

1) Windows XP Home
2) No, single account, I am the only user (80 years old living with wife only)
3) No one else is using my PC
4) Log off then on does not fix - I must shut down and restart PC.
Boris
That is a message I get from time to time after closing the program, then trying to get back to it a few minutes later.

Since it is the only install, I don't understand what causes it and how to solve. At this point I can only resolve it by shuting down the desktop and restarting it... seems to "clean" the problem.

Any suggestions - thanks.

I am looking for a tutorial on how to create a new style (or modify an existing style in PD7).

For example, using the Vacation Style for my summer vacation by motorhome, I want to modify some of the overlays and motions to 'fit' closer to what we actually do, like hiking and bicycling.

Cheers,
boris
