Thank your for your concern but I have already been in contact with support and they sent me a a plug and paste msg with no substance. I have been working with computers and software for over 30 years and I can't figure it out.
Bottom line is it didn't work for me so I will just take the cost as a loss and move on.
Thanks again.
Iggy
I'm so sorry I wasted my money on a non-supported product with very little customer service.
I guess I will get Roxio Media Creator instead.
Any other suggestions?
This is the message I got back from CyberLink about my problem.

Thank you for contacting CyberLink Online Customer Support.

We understand your concern related with reinstalling PowerDirector 7.0 software.

Please follow the suggestions given below:

Please make sure that you have the latest VGA and sound card drivers. Please contact the hardware vendor or visit the manufacturer's website for the latest updates.

Please follow the steps mentioned below to resolve the issue:

1) Empty the contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. Then empty Recycle Bin.

2) Defragment your hard drive. DVD video files are very large and can quickly fill your hard drive. A fragmented hard drive can cause problems during DVD burning/editing. Make sure to defragment your drive(s) regularly.

3) Reset your display settings, screen area to 1024*768, color depth to 16 bit and monitor refresh rate to 60 HZ.

4) To avoid any compatibility issues, please close all other software and utility applications including virus scans, screen saver and instant messaging software before you launch PowerDirector.

5) Increase Virtual memory :

1. Right click on "MyComputer"
2. Select Properties -> Advance
3. Click on "settings" under Performance.
4. Select "Advance"
5. Click on "change" under Virtual memory.
6. Select "Custom" and enter initial value as "2048" and Max value as "4096".

NOTE: If your existing settings are higher than recommended then leave them as before.

6) Please check whether the drive where you have installed PowerDirector software has enough space on it. At least 15 GB of free space is required and recommended while editing a DVD.

Now, try to again to edit a video produce it and then goto create a disc.

7) Start Windows in Selective Startup mode.

a. Click on Start.
b. Click on Run.
c. Type msconfig and click on OK.
d. A System Configuration Utility window will come up.
e. On General tab, select Selective Startup.
f. Uncheck "Load Startup Items".
g. Click on Apply.
h. Click on OK.
i. Click on Close.
j. It will ask you to restart your computer. Click on "Restart".

Now, again try to enter the Create disc mode.
Thank you and best regards

Did it and still no way it accesses Create Disc mode.
I guess I'm stuck with a piece of &!@#$ software package.

Has anyone have any ideas about this issue?
I'm still having the same issue that I can't write a DVD no longer.
I have reinstaleed PD7 with updates with no luck.
I have ISO Magic that morks fine writing DVD's
That is about it. No Nero or other software.

Thanks John in Arizona
I'm no expert but I'd like to know what size was your file including menu prior to you burning your DVD. I only go up to 4.1 gig max and leave some space for the formatting of the DVD. It worked for me.

NOw for some unknown reason I'm inable to get into the burn module and can't write a thing. See my other forum statement.
Hope this helps you.

OK I totally uninstalled PD7 and reinstalled as well as the new update. Rebooted and still have the same problem.
Every time I try to open Create Disc I get the same error as I said in my first message.

I have an Intel 6750 with 2 gig ram and 750 gig of HD space.
Rendered MPG2 file is 4,069 meg in size. Thar is 4.1 gig if you want to round up.
Also I can write DVD's withother software so the drive and computer are ok.

Any ideas?
I have burned about 12 DVD's after rendering them Mpeg2 then today after editing and producing and rendering I tried to burn to DVD and the following error came up.

"Component initiation Failed
They might have been problems during installation
Please reinstall again"

I am not doing anything different than I have in past month and have not added or taken any hardware away.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled and have the same problem.
I will uninstall 100% erasing all regedit items and reinstall and see what happens.

James

I found a work around for the moment.
I used Windows Movie Maker that was installed with my WinXP.
It was able to upload into a avi file then I was able to pull it into PD7 and modify for a final burn DVD. Really worked well.

I guess no one has any idea about this problem?
Facts and my problem:

I am a new user of Cyberlinks Power Director V7

Computer has a 3 gig dual Processor, 2 gig memory, 500 gig sata hard drive. WinXP SP3

My camera is a Sony DCR-TRV315 Digital 8 video camera with firewire output.

Power Director V7 installed fully with no issues.

My Video camera is IDed by computer and Power Director and I have 100% camera control by the software.

I have already uploaded a few video and have saved them in mpg format on hard drive for future plans to burn onto DVD.

Here is my problem.
I tried to upload some of my older 8 and Hi8 tapes which view on my camera and on my TV using this camera.
When I try to play or record them to my PC and Power Director this is what happens
Able to start video and play for approx. 5 seconds and the tape stops and the software asks if I want to save the 5 second clip.

I can hit PLAY then FF you can view the video within Power Director screen in fast forward mode with no problem. When I stop and hit play or record it will play for 5 seconds and stop again and ask if I want to save the 5 second clip.

With the information above what do you think the issue is?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
