It is unlikely that Dstick1 will be successful in finding a solution to his custom title transfer. In his first post he did not state that PD21 and PD15 were on different computers. On my pc, I found that PD12 custom titles appear in PD14, PD15, but not in PD17. There is no need to copy the My Titles from one version to the other. There are enough changes in the version 17 to make it incompatible.

Custom titles created in PD17 do show up in PD20/21/365 and again there is no need to copy the My Titles from one version to the other.

He did indicate Title_107 so it means that he may have at least 107 custom titles in PD15. He could do his projects in PD15, produce it, and bring the produced files to PD21 for further editing. There is a utility out there that allows the transfer of one title to a different pc one at a time written by user Godfrey GA. The DZ can be used to do the transfer too by uploading and downloading. Don’t want users to use it if they leave their trash in the DZ clogging up resources. There are at least two options to do the transfer.

One better option may be to contact Cyberlink support. They may or may not be able to offer a better solution to someone who has at least 107 custom titles. They may know of an easier and faster way to do the transfer.

Heads up,

The reference to different computers was me checking file integrity.

The files I am trying to access and the location are all in the one computer. They work in the video tracks, they are not openning in the Title. The same process has been used and worked in PDR20. So I am not understanding your point. Further to this I was trying to create some retro refits for my videos. All files to date have been forward compatible.

My reference to the 107 title was that that PDR21 recognises there are 106 previous files in the location before renaming the new file I created. So clearly the software is recognizing, reading that there is content in the location.

For what ever reason, PDR21 is not importing these files. I disagree with you statement the files are not compatible, as they are readable and workable in the time line of PDR21 and in Custom Titles for PDR20,

Thanks for your input, but there is not any helpful way forward with your advice other than contact support which I have.

Hi,

Apologies, I assumed you were on PDR20 - or are you on PDR21?

The OP was on PDR20 back in March and posted in the PDR20 forum and you posted under that, but your most recent post mentioned PDR21.

If you want PDR21 to pick them up, you will need to copy them to
C:\Users\UserName\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector\21.0\MyTitles

Does that solve the issue?

That is frustrating, I did edit thart section to say PDR21 but it was not picked up the Edit and left it at PDR20. Sorry about that.

Yes I am learning PDR21.

So yes I did copy to : C:\Users\UserName\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector\21.0\MyTitles

I also modified a template in PDR21 title section and saved it and it saved in this location (PowerDirector\21.0\MyTitles) after my last folder in the section which it is obviously reading as it created a folder Title_107. So it will read 107, but not any of the others in this location.

In actual fact I did both to see whether PDR21 was looking for the PDR20 folder. Neither work.

The title files are not corrupted as I can drag them across into the story board section and that will sit in a video track and play.

I can open them in PDR 15 on my old laptop and they work there.

FWIW What you are suggestion is what I have always done when I have upgraded my PDR software. I first started on PDR5 and I have never had this issue where the Titles wont automatically open up from the path: C:\Users\UserName\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector\Version of the day number eg 7\MyTitles

This was the only forum discussion I could find on the topic and I thought The same application from 20 suggestion would solve my issue, but it has not.

Any other ideas? I'm clearly over my limit in IT ideas LOL!

I appreciate your help

Cheers

Hi,

Try this in file explorer :

Navigate to the location of the custom titles in PDR15
Default is usually C:\Users\UserName\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector\15.0\MyTitles

Identify the titles you need - no easy way to do this I'm afraid as PDR names the folders sequentially Title_004, Title_005 etc. so you have to examine the contents to see which title is which.

Copy the title(s) you need

Navigate to the location for PDR20 custom titles
Default is usually C:\Users\UserName\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector\21.0\MyTitles

Paste your custom titles into the folder - beware of overwriting any existing titles with the same name. If there is a clash rename one of the files with a unique name following the Title_??? protocol.

Launch PDR20 and see if your title is transferred.

I would recommend doing a trial with one title first!!

Unfortunately this is what I did first.

Normally as I have upgraded in the past, I did what you just suggested as that is where the custom files are stored. So I copied all my customs into the C:\Users\UserName\Documents\CyberLink\PowerDirector\20.0\MyTitles. And they were not picked up. I then created a new custom file out of PDR21 to see if I was in the wrong file location. The new custom was created below my imported titles as a Title 107. So that is why I was trying the import mode.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers
Quote They should automatically appear in the Title Room under the Custom filter. If you don't see any there, chances are your current project's aspect ratio is different from the project(s) that you saved the custom titles from.

An easy workaround is to temporarily change the project AR to the other setting to populate the custom title library, then drag the desired title to the timeline and restore the desired AR for the current project.

I have some .clt custom files doing the same thing.

I want to import old custom titles from PDR15 and my options to import are on DZT Files(*.dzt) or DZ3DT Files(*.dz3dt)

I can drag into the time line straight from the folder but not into the library.

I have tried changing aspect ratios with no success?

Cheers for the help
Part 2 with 10second clip
Hi Dafydd,

Google is My Friend :

Sorry for my lack of clear explaination.

I had already googled MediaInfo and FFDShow, what I was unclear about was whether these were 3rd party programs that were included with my PDR install files eg like Quicktime, that were failing to install or whether I had missed installing them during the PDR installation, or whether I had to go and get these programs in addition to my install from 3rd party providers. I was also unclear on how I was to be using this 3rd party software, eg was I meant to be using it in conjunction with the camera down load or in conjunction with the PDR software. I got to the point where I was not sure which version I should be using and from where I should be downloading it as it was offered by sites all over the place. About this point my brain imploded and I thought I'd better ask before I did something stupid with my inexperience

I have also been looking at my computer performance. What I find is that it appears with these files generated by the nikkon camera, my computer when using PDR8 is becoming a resorce hungry beast after I have done some small alterations of the time line and saved a PDS. By resource hungry I mean that when I look at task manager, under processes, PDR is using 10x what the system is using in mem usage. This generates a warning through win 7 that the computer is slowing down. Given the processer and resources it has I am puzzled about why this is happening given what I am trying to do. I find I can shut down and restart the computer and have another crack at saving another pds after small alterations before repeating the process. Less than ideal and very time consuming as you can imagine. You can see why I am keen to find a solution to what ever it is screwing with my time.

I have included a 3 second clip of the file generated by the camera here with this and will add a 10 second clip in case this is not long enough.

Having said that, your answers so far have put me way ahead of where I was yesterday so I am wrapped

Many thanks as always

David
Many Thanks for the help as always Dafydd,

So I updated my drivers, did the uninstall re install.

My Brain kind of exploded with this:

2. install the correct codec for the file - use mediaInfo to open and look at the properties fully.
3. install a codec pack - something like FFDShow may help.

excuse my ignorance - is mediainfo a seperate freeware program I need to download or is that part of PDR and what is a codec pack and how do I use it and do I need to download free ware FFDShow as well?

My .avi files are coming straight off a Nikkon Coolpix digital L17 camera so I have no idea what codec this camera is using and how to install a correct codec. Is this done on the camera?

Sorry if this is a bit low brow I'm a bit novice when it comes to all this.

Many thanks again

Hi Dafydd and crew,

I am having a real problem with PDR8 and .avi files.

PDR8 is continually shutting down with Runtime errors or other unexplained program has stopped errors.

At the Moment I only have a 1G of movie files in .avi I am trying to edit and I can not get more than 1 save of PDS without crashing.

I remember going through a similar problem with PDR7 a while back.

I now have a new computer that should tear this stuff up, yet the program is functioning in a very disfunctional way and struggling with the files.

This is a brand new install on a brand new machine running windows 7. I have taken some snap shots and Diax info see attached.

1. Double clicked and opened my pds project file in PD8 v3022
2. selected Media Library folder icon
3. Located and brought in my .avi files 27.
4. Used magic movie wizard and selected a music file
5. All volume was music, 13mins of footage reduced to 5mins
6. Create movie
7. System locks up and crashes with a runtime error
8. Make my on time line and save as PDS file. Fails also.
See attached some error messages.

Anyway all help greatly appreciated as always

I really should drink more coffee before playing!!

I just realised the business template wasn't loading LOL! That would be because of the 4:3 ratio!!

I changed my title template to a 16:9 and there you go problem solved opens in 16:9

Sorry for being a dill!!

Thanks for the heads up though that has me sorted out!! Hope it may save others a small headache also
Genius! That'd be the problem fixed using 4:3. Why I missed that who knows?? What threw me was the default titles loaded and they had the same title template eg

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>
<TEMPLATE_MGR VERSION="1.0"><TEMPLATE_LIST><TEMPLATE TYPE="PRESET" ASPECTRATIO="4:3" CATEGORY="Business" FILENAME="TitleTemplate.clt" ALIAS="Business 002" THUMBNAIL_PERCENT="50"/></TEMPLATE_LIST></TEMPLATE_MGR>

and mine read:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"?>
<TEMPLATE_MGR VERSION="1.0"><TEMPLATE_LIST><TEMPLATE TYPE="PRESET" ASPECTRATIO="4:3" CATEGORY="BEGINING" FILENAME="TitleTemplate.clt" ALIAS="Howling Dog" THUMBNAIL_PERCENT="50"/></TEMPLATE_LIST></TEMPLATE_MGR>

So what do I need to do to be able to have PD7 in 16/9 recognize my custom titles? Is there a simple method or is it create a new title from scratch?

Thanks for the help - love your work - saves my head blowing up somtimes LOL!
Hey Dafydd and Co,

Sorry to trouble you. I just uploaded the PD7 7.0.2726 patch to give it a whirl. For some reason it will not load my custom titles. I have done a search on the forum and haven't found anyone asking this question, appologies if it is repeated - all help greatly appreciated.
What is puzzling me is when I hit the title room button, I see all my custom titles templates initialising but then not being displayed in title room.
First time it happened I went import media and import title files and I browse and can see all my folders with my titles, but the open window wants to open a .dzt file? There is no .dzt files in any of my title folders. Puzzled I went to open a Program file title template and there is no .dzt there either in PD7's templates yet they are openning in my title room. I'm sure there is an easy fix here please advise.

Thanks in advance

Cheers
LOL I Love a happy ending....
Thanks Dafydd,

Info is being uploaded as requested. Thanks for your help and support.

My Dog thanks you as well
Hey All,

Thought I might just throw some flavours into the vanilla!

Ok, Obviously because I am bored and have run out of beer (not having drunk any today) here is what I have been up to: I expanded my memory space to no avail following my original post plan pathways.

Running the assumption that it was the mix of .avi,.jpg,.mpg playing havoc I chose 1 file of each and hit MMM. I chose the selected files instead of Library and chose no music. This worked fine.

So I then chose random 3 files of each ran MMM on Selected instead of library. (Interesting thing happens here - Slider for Video Photo Ratio Locks up - wont go left or right? Is that supposed to happen??) Back to problem so I leave it in center and tada all works fine 37sec silent movie....

So I then chose the above 3 files of each, ran MMM on selected , add the music as per my original plan, I don't adjust clip to match soundtrack and everything works 37 sec video with effects and music

So I select the whole library and run as per my original plan (meaning I chose selected items which is everything in the library and follow plan) (except video photo slider stuck in middle of ratio?? ) Windows critical stop - Visual C ++ error as outline before PDR.EXE is naughty visual C++ is not that type of program and goes home and I wish I had bought some beer sigh

After kicking the dog for not biting me to go and get some beer, I then went back to the 3 files of everything. I removed all files not in the 37 sec clip. Then for a laugh I run MMM and try to create a movie from the Library and use the same sound track not adjusting the clip to suit the sound track and I leave the video slider ratio photo in the center ( it moves when I use library mode!!) I then wait for my 37sec movie and Windows critical stop and the abnormal termination message

Now I really wish I had bought some beer..... I pick up the cat, throw it at the dog and wonder where the cat came from as we don't own a cat (to be continued unless my sanity is saved.......)

Summary: I can make movies via MMM with mixed files, provided I don't use all the mixed files (ie the entire content) in the Library via the selected items option with sound track. ( When I use this option - my video photo ratio slider will not work)

If I attempt to use the same files only, as above in summary, ( by removing all others not in the above clip from the library) and I use the same sound track as above. When I use MMM in Library selection mode ie from Library button I crash via PDR.exe upsetting 2008 Visual C++ with error messages from original post

Finally I have dragged the entire project library into the time line and repeated the sound track and it all plays with no effects transitions added

I need to go get a beer and a new dog......
Hey RobertJ,

For the exercise I have downloaded Visual C++ express 2008 with SP1. Installed the software, checked for updates, installed all recommended updates for the software and sql etc. Bedded it down, restarted and started powerdirector started on the path I described above with MMM - crash - error is abnormal program termination for visual C++ runtime by the PDR.exe

Sigh unfortunately this is not a solution for me (Actually sigh wasn't what fell out of my mouth but will suffice today LOL )

Any other hints gladly experimented with!!

Many thanks for help

Cheers David
Hey Everyone,
Thankyou for your help.

Ron Glad you've found the fix for vista, I'll look into XP SP3 and see if there is a similar function, from memory my settings are Windows manages the performance.

For Dafydd : I tried something different last night. I reinstalled an image of my Hard Drive from the beginning of the month when everything was Running sweet. I then tried to run throught the steps I described using 2429a which had worked fine for all recent progects without crashing. When given the project it openned and loaded the files fine. When I ran Magic movie maker (MMM)- the error for this project appeared as described. So I guess that ruled out windows updates and update 2519! So is it the mix of files I'm using causing the problem for MMM? The audio is obviously not the issue, although the MMM crashes later without audio files. The .mpg files come out of a sony camera DSC-P72. What is new for me is the .AVI files which are produced out of a Nikkon L18 camera.

For Robert: How Do I double check I have the latest Visual C++ 2008 on my computer? I thought it was part of Visual Studio? I 'll do a google search and find Visual C++ 2008. My windows updates have not shown me needing any updates so I haven't installed anythingbut I'll try your suggestion and see if that helps.

Thanks everyone for your help again!
Kind regards

David
Hey Ron,

I'm running less memory than you. PDR does use a bit, but you should be fine unless it's Blue Ray HD etc editing you are speaking of which uses lots of memory. Maybe there is other background drains on your memory? What is confusing me about this problem is that 3 weeks ago everything for me was Mickey Mouse. I downloaded the new patch 2519 and then I start recieving these runtime errors with my new projects. I have unistalled and re installed about 10 times now. Tried going back to earlier versions, even system restored and tried. It has me stuffed? If memory was the trigger I would have thought that I would have been suffering way earlier. What is frustrating is that I can not get back to my happy place I was 3 weeks earlier......sigh - YET! Dafydd will find an answer I have faith!
Hey Bill,

Have you not contacted customer service and not had a response?
For what it is worth the system you are uploading may have some files corrupted and may need to be free from those demo files. Try going through the "cleaning and uninstalling " tips from Dafydd in this post : http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/5700.page
He provides a series of links in this post under "see...." Part C,D and H.
Part C is pretty thorough at cleaning up the system and then once you are sure you have cleaned up try following the installing steps again for the new program you have purchased. If it doesn't load, contact customer service and ask them for a new disc image for you to down load.

Hope this helps

David

Hey Dafydd,

Long time since I have had a grizzle here LOL! Not trying to jump on a band wagon here but I am having the exact same problem. My problem started about 2 weeks ago when I was using magic movie wizard in the new 2519. Now it won't open any pds that I have made in the last 2 weeks without crashing blaming PDR.exe via Visual C++ runtime etc error message. I have tried a full uninstall, removed all traces of Cyberlink files, smart sound and photonow. Done searches to ensure all files gone. I have done your reg edit suggestions and used windows install clean up. I have re installed updated to 2519 and still it is crashing. I uninstalled again as above and regedit removed the whole cyberlink files and went back to the version I was using 2429a which was stable and this has started playing the same game. I'm using XP SP3 with automatic updates. I even right clicked on the PDR.exe to see if I can run in compatible mode with XP but there is not an option to do so. It is some what Frustrating. Do you have any other suggestions apart from above mentioned? Cheers
