  1. Handbrake is a really good one. It's free and open source. On the plus side they use GPG signatures for validating your download.

Quote I too am in the same boat as you. I recently purchased PD 16 and have a pretty damn fast computer. i7 with a Nvidia 970 and wanted to edit my first video using some security cam footage that was downloaded in ASF format. After importing the footage and going into edit it, I noticed a really sluggish and laggy software issue. I was considering overclocking my rig to 4.6GHz just to see if it was an issue with the overall performance of the software and not so much the graphics card. However I decided to import some other videos in a new project in MP4 format and noticed that there were no real issues with the preview capability or the software freezing up and not responding. I'm beginning to think that Cyberlink and ASF containers don't do too well together. Strange considering that ASF is a Windows format container with WMA and WMV files. It also has some framework builtin for encryptions which might suggest that it is creating some issues upon decoding. I'm no expert, but it's a thought anyway. Guess I'll just stick to reformatting security cam footage when I need to include into productions.

Omni8432, In a way I am glad that you have posted this issue as well. Cyberlink has offered no solution to this problem. An ASF file should be a pretty standard easy to use file, it has been out forever. Render time with Power Director 16 is 4 times longer than with Version 13 with any file type used. The sad part is that a person spends the money to upgrade, and there is no customer service tech department to solve the issues and offer another free upgrade. Cyberlink does not care about it's customers. I still have to use my Version 13 for ASF file types from security cam footage, which is 75% of the files I work with daily.

I am very disappointed in this product, it should clearly state that this product is not for use with ASF file types.
Editing my GoPro footage works flawlessly, but render time is 4 times as long as it should be....
I wonder if these Cyberlink designers actually get paid to create new versions that don't work as well as older versions?
