A few additional pieces for the puzzle:

Installed the latest Audigy Drivers - no change

Installed the latest nVidia motherboard drivers - no change

(Checked windows update - but there were none that I didn't already have)

Removed and replaced dynamic swap file with a fixed one of 3Gigs (have 2GB ram) - no change

Ran the "slow-boot" memory test which didn't detect any problems, I'll run a proper memory test overnight...
Dafydd,

Thanks for your continued interrest in helping me fix this.

I installed the latest NVidia drivers and PD loaded fine after that. Once... I'm guessing it was unrelated since all subsequent attempts failed. The error was different though - now it stalled at 99% loaded rather than simply crashing.

I then un-installed my audio card drivers and removed the Audigy speaker configuration tool, which also allowed me to load my project, twice even, but now I'm back to square one.

The successfull loads may be related to the fact that I rebooted after installing / un-installing, but even this is inconsistent, as I've tried rebooting again with no luck.

So the bottom line seems to be that I can sometimes load the project. Once it's loaded and once it has allowed me to do one thing without crashing, it appears to run fine (at least for a little while).

(FWIW: I'm on a dual screen setup, running 1600x1200 and 1280x1024, but I've tried disabling one screen with no change in behaviour. It may also be worth noting that I run 3DSMax, Doom 3, Photoshop 7 and a variety of other graphics intensive applications on the same PC with no problems whatsoever.)
Hi,

I recently purchased Power Director 6 in an attempt to reduce my growing collection of DV tapes into something usefull

Unfortunately, I'm having some issues with PD crashing.

It started with an occasional crash right after load of my project. By trial and error I found that allowing DP to stop all disc activity before touching anything in the UI, avoided the crash in most cases.

I then started adding sound to my clips, and the crashes got progressively worse. Found a suggestion here that disabling showing of waveforms in the timeline might help, and it did. At first.

Next time I loaded the project, however, it crashed immediately, and I've since been unable to work on the given project.

I've installed the latest patch (2319), and I have tried disabling "funky" video decoders such as FFDShow to no avail.

Is anyone else experiencing constant crashes?
(edit: posted under new heading)
Strike that - it still crashes... Continously! If not immediately after load, then the first time I touch anything - whether it is the timeline, a clip or the play button - any interaction with the UI crashes PD.

This is very disappointing.
Hi, I'm new to Power Director but ran into this problem almost immediately. I did as adviced above, and PD no longer crashes, so there is obviously a bug in Power Director when displaying the waveform - anyone have any idea when or if CyberLink is going to release a patch for this?
