Quote Did your Capture device come with software to record the captured Video.

Many Capture devices come with a software named "Arcsoft Total Media Exteme" or "Arcsoft Total Media".

If you have software that came with the device, record your capture with that software then Import the video file into Powerdirector for editing.

nope...did't come with that

i'm a pain...aren't I! :
Quote The capture icon for VCR/VHS is the TV icon ( capture with a TV signal).

Try a different USB port.
Also, if you can capture with another program, that is not a crime. Use another program and go on with your life.

Barry...thank you again for the help.

Unfortunatley the icon for VCR/VHS is grayed out and I can't click it.

This is frustrating...I've tried everything....different USB ports, unistall/reinstall driver, rebooted several times, plugged in device with and without PD15 running...but I just can't get it to recognize the video.

All the other programs that use video recogize the device and I can see the video on screen, but I don't have another capture program and didn't want to spend more money on something that PD15 should be able to do.

Have any other ideas?

Thanks agian!
Quote I am sorry, the button I am referring to is labeled "Settings" in the Capture Module on the lower Right.

For your Video capture device to be detected, it must be connected before you enter the Capture Module and the Device driver must be installed in Windows. Not all capture devices have a correct driver for Powerdirector to use.

.

frist of all...thank you for all your help!

Ok...found the button.....however, when I go there, the drop down to change the capture device is "grayed out" and won't let me change it. See attached.

I've tried changing some of the other values to see it allows me to change it, but nothing.

Not sure what else to do. I've tried deleting the driver that was installed when I connected the device and reinstalling...but nothing.

Any other ideas?
Quote It looks like you have the PC camera selected in PD capture module.

Click the Device button, look for your video capture device. The VCR capture device should show as 'Capture from a TV signal'.

Example picture attached.

.

Not sure what you mean by the "Device button".

If you mean the devices in the attachment you uploaded, the only thing available to click is the mic, video cam, external optical device, and screen.

Where is the "Device" button?
anyone have any ideas what I should try?

I installed a VCR capture device with USB and RCA plugs.

I installed the driver and it works perfect with other programs.

But when I use with PD15 it captures the audio but video won't capture.

When I go to capture module, it recognizes it as a Video Cam (i believe this is intended) so that option is available. The microhone is also avaialable. I was able to capture audio and play it back. But when I click on the "web cam" and click on Record it just gives me an error (see attached). I tried all the different settings but nothing works.

Like i said, all other programs recognize the Video Cam and displays the video I'm playing through the VCR, but PD15 doesn't.

Hope someone can help.

I have a very new PC with Windows 10.

Thank you!

Quote Hauppage 850The item you mention seems to have a coaxial connection. You saying should connect the VCR through that connection?

I have a similar USB stick. I has a mini-S type looking connector on its side, and it came with an adapter cable that breaks out in to S connector and RCA plugs for component video. Perhaps Barry's does too?

I actually found this on the web.USB-2-0-Audio-Video-VHS-to-DVD-PC-Converter-Capture-Card-Adapter

Its only $10 so may be worth a shot.

But I'd really like Barry's take on this as he seems like the expert.

Thanks in advance!

But there is more to VHS conversion...
the quality of the machine, the tape itself, what cables (S-video?), time base correction, too.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I'm a little surprised. The item you mention seems to have a coaxial connection. You saying should connect the VCR through that connection?

I would have expected you were going to suggest this device:

What am I not understanding?

By the way...not sure why your name is BarryTheCrab. You seem like a very nice fellow! :

Thank you in advance!

Quote I use a Hauppage device which is very dependable. From VCR>Hauppage>USB port.
I can use it with any software, including PD capture. The signal appear as TV Signal in PD.

Hi Barry: Got a model number for your Hauppauge? Does yours recieve OTA digital TV?

Yes...I'd like to know which model also. All different types on website but I'm new to this so not sure which one.

Thank you in advance!
I have a dozen or so VCR tapes that I'd like to convert to digital format and create DVD's out of. Believe it or not, I still do have an old VCR!!

A couple of questions that hopefully someone can help me with.

  1. Any suggestions on which video signal converter would work well with PD15 and Windows 10?

  2. When I click on "Capture" on PD15, I don't see option for VCR.......what would I use then...do I use the "Capture from CamCorder"

Any suggestions and tips would be GREATLY appreciated!!

PS I'm very new to PD and video editing in general but after doing my first video production...I'm starting to really enjoy this!

Thank you!

Al
I created a project with a lot of videos in it. It apparently does not fit on one DVD.

How do a have it span more then 1 DVD?

Does PD15 do this automatically for you? or do I need to create 2 separate projects and create a DVD for each?

Thank you for help.
