Quote: You could produce the same slideshow as progressive high resolution mp4 or the wmv file for the usb drive and have much less shimmering in the photos if you want to try it. Both formats should be compatible with the win 10 media player.

I love the idea of forgetting about the DVD and going to USB thumb drive only. Now that all these Blu-ray players seem to play thumb drives that seems best -- especially since the quality would be better.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say I can "produce the same slideshow as progressive high resolution OR the wmv file for the usb drive". If I want to produce for the thumb drive only and get the highest quality -- how should I proceed in Production? The project is only about 5 minutes so file size doesn't matter.

What file format should I select? (H.264 AVC or H.265 HEVC or ...)

What profile type?

what profile name/Quality?

Thanks to everyone for all your time. You all have been a big help.

Doug
Hi CS2014:

Great question! Sad to say I didn't even know my DVD player had a USB port. I found it and plugged in the USB Drive. The project is displayed in all it's glory -- which is wonderful!

I'm not sure why I don't get the photos (only the music) when I play the Drive on my PC through windows media; VLC for window; movie maker and QuickTime?

But suggesting I play it though my Blu-ray player was a great idea! Now the issue has been narrowed to my PC.

Any suggestions about why that's still a problem?

Thanks!
Yes the DVD is fine.

There's a bit of shimmering with the photos which is why I'm trying to use a flash drive. I hope the project played from a flash drive will have better PQ but the entire slideshow is there on the DVD!
I have Windows 8.1. After reading Carl312's response I downloaded VLC for Windows. It gets good ratings and says it plays many video files -- including MPEG 2.

I tried playing the video again and again got only the music track. No photos. The video plays within PD13 and I was able to burn a copy to a DVD -- although it was a copy created in the create a disc portion of PD13. The file I sent to the Flash Drive was an earlier version I produced but -- as I said it work within PD13. The file size and length of the video is the same in the produced file and the file in the Flash Drive.

I used the method suggested by tomasc and Jaime-esque above to send the video to the Flash Drive.

Is there a way to export the video to a flash drive after using the create disc portion of PD13? It was easy to burn to a DVD from that section.

There must be an easy solution. Thanks
Thanks tomasc and Jaime-esque.

I found the file and dragged it to the USB drive. I set it to play in Windows Media. It copied the file to the drive but when I play it only the music track is played. The file size is exactly the same size as the original but here are no photos.

I produced it as MPEG2.

Thanks
Hi Guys:

I've produced my slideshow. A copy is in the "media content" part of the program. I also went into the "Create Disc" part of the program. I was able to create a video and burn it to a DVD.

The problem is I can't figure out how to save/burn the video slideshow to a USB Thumb drive. I have PD13.

I've tried to save the produced video to the desktop by dragging it or right clicking to send it there but those aren't options. I'm guessing if I could find the produced file I could drag it to the thumb drive.

Thanks for any help
Quote: IHello Douglas,

You could copy the finished project(produced) to a flash drive, or as you call them in the USA, "thumb-drives", then plug that into the computer at the funeral parlour where your memorial service is taking place. It's likely many(if not all) funeral parlours have such facilities these days. Your presentation would run on either VLC or Windows Media Player.(you'll save a DVD for other uses, or for the memorial if you wish to burn it at a later date.)

Cheers!

Neil.

Thanks tomasc and Neil. Great suggestion about using a thumb-drive. I guess I can plug the thumb-drive into a laptop and the laptop into a large TV which would display the show.

When I produce the slideshow for a thumb-drive what "file format" do I select?

What "profile type"?

What Profile name/Quality?

So my understanding is if I produce the slideshow for a thumb-drive the shimmering will go away without the need to remove the pan and scan on the photos?

Thanks guys. I appreciate your knowledge and input. Doug
Thanks for the response.

So are you saying that if I want to burn to a DVD I need to eliminate any movement of the photos. For me that's one of the important aspects of a good slideshow. Without photo movement slideshows are boring.

I'm going to be showing this memorial slideshow in a funeral home. Is there another way to produce the slideshow other than burning a DVD? Would saving it to a tablet or phone and then somehow outputting the show to a large smart TV display work?

Thanks for your time.
I've also used the "default" profile setting instead of "all". I get the same results.
Quote: Sounds like a glitch in production. Have you tried to produce it again and see if you get the same effect?

This ocurred during playback in the window before production. But I had produced and saved a copy so I ran it. The produced copy has the same problem but it's much worse. All 40 photos are jerky and shimmery throughout the entire show. It not watchable!

I've tried to produce it several more times with the same results.

This is a 40 photo 5 minute slideshow. I have windows 8.1. I want to burn the project to DVD for a memorial slideshow. Why is the production so unstable?

The pre-production show is fine except for that one minor glitch with one photo that I mentioned in my first post. I can live with that.

The shimmering is not noticeable when I watch in the small PD13 window but when I enlarge the show on my 27" computer screen, it's very very noticeable. I've produced it in MP4 for mobile devices and MPEG-2. Both productions have the same problem.

Is this the way the slideshow will look when I burn it to a DVD? What am I doing wrong? I spent several months making this slideshow. I can't believe the produced product turned out like this. There must be an easy solution.

I attached a screenshot of the settings prior to production.

Thanks. Doug
Hi Guys:

One of the photos in my slideshow has an issue. After the transition the photo fully appears with a jerkiness. None of the other photos do this. I've looked on the timeline and don't see any differences between this photo/transition/text overlay and the others.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Thanks for the feedback. I now understand that smartsound is not ordinary music -- but $20 for one song is ridiculous.

Does anyone have a link to a tutorial on Magic Music/Smart Sound? I can't find one that's of much use.

I have an MP3 file on my computer that I'd like to use in the slideshow. I can't figure out how to get the file to the timeline. I dragged it to "C:/Programdata/smartsound/sound files hits" but I can't get it on the timeline music track. I can drag it into the Magic Music window. It appears that the song is being copied but then it disappears and I have no idea where it went. I've tried to drag it from the sound files hits to the timeline but nothing happens.

Thanks. Doug
Thanks. Apparently I needed to download some updates to get the free music. I did that and now see the highlighted songs at the top. Unfortunately, the selection is extremely small. The songs I want are not free. When I clicked on 1 of the 3-4 songs I want and then click on purchase it takes me a page that says if I want to buy that song I have 3 purchase options:

Download lasting memories disc for $99

Download Pro quality (48k) Single $19.99

Ship Lasting memories disc $99.

I must be reading this wrong! I want about 4 short music clips (1-2 minutes) to add to my slideshow. It sounds like they want me to pay $20 for that one song. That can't be correct? Of course I'm not going to pay $20 for each song I want or $99 for a download of an album? No-one would -- right?

What's the best way to get appropriate songs for the background for a slideshow?

Thanks again.
Hi:

I've been happy with PowerDirector 13 until I started trying to add music to my slideshow. I'm using Full Feature Editor to create a memorial slideshow.

I've added all the photos, transitions and titles. I'm now trying to add music. I haven't been able to find a helpful/useful tutorial. I've explored Members Zone and the link to tutorials, above. I can't find anything that exclusively teaches about magic music/smart sounds.

The internet has a few amateur magic music videos on PD 8/9 that weren't much help. I've gone into C:/Programdata/Smartsounds/files and there's nothing there except for 70 preview files.

I found some music under Magic Music. I can listen to the clips but don't know how to add them to the timeline. Apparently, some are free but I can't figure out which ones. None are highlighted when I click on "select a song". If I click on "Purchase" there's a only a $20 and $100 packages.

All I want is 3 music clips that I found in Magic Music. I've tried to drag/apply them to the timeline without success. Smartsound doesn't help because there's no files there.

I've followed the 4 steps in magic music. The 4th step is "select a variation and apply timeline". Theres' always only one clip -- no variations -- to choose. I right click but the "add to music track" is not highlighted.

How do I take the 3 songs I've found in magic music and add them to the timeline? I'm hoping I can control the length of the sound clips once I add them to the timeline and blend the clips into each other.

Maybe it's just me ...

Thanks for your time.
Hi:

I've put together a 5 minute slideshow with about 40 photos. They have transitions and titles that overlay the photos. There's a photo in the middle of the timeline that I want to delete. How do I delete the photo, transition and overlay title without getting screwing up the overlay titles and transitions of all the photos that follow in the timeline?

Thanks for the help.
Hi

I imported about 60 photos into the PD 13 library. They're not in the order I want. I can't figure out how to drag the photo around witin the library. The program seems limited in ways to sort within the library. There must be a setting that allows dragging of photos within the library?

Thanks.
Thanks for the responses. It was a terminology issue and thanks to you I figured out how to use Titles to label the photos.
Hi Guys:

I have PD 13. I'm slowly learning how to put together a slideshow. I've watch several tutorials on subtitles but haven't found the answer.

Is there a way to have a subtitle transition so it doesn't just appear and stay motionless? I'd like the titles to slowly sweep in or appear as if the title is being quickly typed. Actually any kind of motion or transition to make them less boring!

Thanks.
I've been using the trial version of PD 14 Ultra. I had already ordered PD 13 on Amazon. When I got the 13 CD from Amazon I uninstalled the PD 14 trial version and installed the PD 13 purchased version.

I'm not sure but I think there's features in PD 14 that I like better than in 13. For instance resizing photos and controlling motion effects seem better in 14 but I'm not sure. In 14 I was able to take the motion arrow and pull it back to back a loop so the photo moves back and forth. I can't seem to do that in 13 -- but I'd like to try 14 trial again now that I've used 13 for a few days.

Can I keep 13 installed and then download the 14 trial version again? I'm not sure they can both be installed at the same time without problems.

Thanks. Doug
Quote: It looks like that you have selected the Slideshow style: Motion which prodeuces the Pan and Zoom type cropping and movement. Try using a different one such as normal or highlight.

There will be less cropping in a 4x3 aspect ratio instead of a 16x9 slideshow. You original photo here has an aspect ratio of 5x4, not 4x3 so there has to be some cropping unless you place them inside a 4x3 or 16x9 frame. Frozen space, for example is 16x9.

Let us know if this helps...

Hi tomac:

Thanks for the supply. Sorry but I'm a rank beginner so I'm not able to follow what you said.

I don't remember choosing any particular style much less "slideshow style". I using the 'Full Feature Editor". I avoided the "Slideshow Creator".

I want movement with the photos but don't need cropping. How do I choose "normal" or "highlight"?

How do I place the photo inside a 4x3 frame?

Sorry for the beginner questions. I've looked for good tutorials but they're hard to find.

Doug
