Quote There's no way to select any particular area to stabilize, although that might be a good thing to request using Rate Us & Provide Suggestions under PD's File menu.

You may have some luck by experimenting with different combinations of the motion level slider and enabling/disabling rotational shake and enhanced stabilizer, but if you have a tool that already does what you want, it seems like using that and importing the result into PD would be the quickest way to go.

Yes. I did it that way and it works fine. The filter is 'deshaker' and it's free. You have to use it with virtualdub which is also free. - https://www.guthspot.se/video/deshaker.htm

If you have ColorDirector or DirectorSuite (which includes ColorDIrector) you can try using the Motion Mask feature to remove the clouds. You can then place the original clip on the lower number track, the Death Star on the next numbered track, and the clouds on the highest numbered track.

If you do not have ColorDirector Barry has already provided you with the best solution.

Yes I have color director. That's probably the way I'll go. Similar to rotobrush in aftereffects. Thanks for all your suggestions.
Quote Put the Star Wars clip on a higher number track will make it appear in front of whatever Is in lower numbered tracks.

If the star wars clip has transparency, parts of the lower numbers tracks will show through.
You can use Chroma key to make the Green screen transparent.

.

Yes but it needs to be BEHIND the clouds
I have a timelapse video which has some shaking because of the wind. It also has moving clouds. If I use the stabiliser it makes it worse because it tries to stabilise the clouds! Is it possible to stabilise the whole clip based on the movement of a selected (ground) area? I have a standalone tool which does this just fine but I just upgraded powerdirector and wondered if this was possible inside the tool.
I have a timelapse video of a huge wide landscape with rolling clouds. I also have a green screen clip of the Star Wars death star which I want to slowly creep across the screen. But it needs to be in front of the 'sky' (there is some blue sky visible behind the clouds) but behind the clouds. I assume I need to turn the moving clouds into a mask but I can't figure out the best way to do that. Any ideas?
This is what it was for. I still don't know why adding keyframe motion to masks and crops isn't a feature though, lol.

Thanks for that. I couldn't download the overlay due to useless coffee shop data connectivity but I made an overlay as described and it did exactly what I need. I'd forgotten about the colourboards but I can see that would work too.

I really appreciate your help.
I want to do something and can't figure out how!

I want a video clip to start with just the left hand third of the screen visible. The rest of the screen black.

After some period, the visible part of the video should expand to the right, over a few seconds, eventually exposing the whole screen, which then plays out as normal.

If I could adjust the size of a mask in PiP, based on keyframes, that would work - but that feature isn't available.

Any thoughts?
