Mask/crop with motion - again!

I want to do something and can't figure out how!

I want a video clip to start with just the left hand third of the screen visible. The rest of the screen black.

After some period, the visible part of the video should expand to the right, over a few seconds, eventually exposing the whole screen, which then plays out as normal.

If I could adjust the size of a mask in PiP, based on keyframes, that would work - but that feature isn't available.

Any thoughts?

Hi Kevin -

You don't need a mask - you need an overlay that you can move. Your thinking is right, but you are on the wrong track laughing

This is the kind of thing you're after... http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/detail/124826853 Drop it in Track 2 to overlay the video. You may need to adjust the duration and keyframes, but it does what you want.

Cheers - Tony

Hello, kevinbuckley70

There's another way to do this, simply call up a black colour board from the colour boards and drop it onto a PiP track to cover the right half of your screen, then pick an animation effect that moves the superimposed black colour board to the right. Depending on the wanted duration of the effect, click on the colour board(highlight it) a "Duration" tab will appear, click on it and set the wanted duration of your effect and the black colour will move to the right as fast or as slow as you wish.

Hope this works for you.

Cheers!

Thanks for that. I couldn't download the overlay due to useless coffee shop data connectivity but I made an overlay as described and it did exactly what I need. I'd forgotten about the colourboards but I can see that would work too.

I really appreciate your help.

This is what it was for. I still don't know why adding keyframe motion to masks and crops isn't a feature though, lol.
