1. Being able to change levels on the entire audio track - presently every clip has to be changed individually

2. Being able to select several clips using the 'shift+arrow' combination. Presently, multiple clips can only be selected using 'ctrl' which is laborious

3. Improve the 2D cross-fade transition to remove the zoom-in/out effect. Essentially, I'm asking for a disolve.

Thanks, Chris
Thanks Jeff, appreciate your input and advice. It does seem to be a serious issue that Cyberlink needs to address though - your work-around works perfectly, but the problem does need to be corrected.
I'd really like to know why Cyberlink decided to drop the frame rate rather than reduce the frame quality to achieve the bitmap reduction. I cannot see any situation where a 23fps frame rate would work.
Hope this is looked at for v13....
Creating AVCHD disc (37m) specifying 'Smart Fit' to utilize single layer DVD (project too big using 1080i) results in a stream file with 23 FPS. Unwatchable as you would imagine!
My expectation is that Smart Fit would reduce the bitrate of the project to fit (this was the case with Pinnacle Studio)
Would somebody please tell me why Cyberlink chose to mess with the frame rate and (if) how this can be corrected.
Thanks,
Thanks Carl.
I added chapters to my mkv file using mkvmerge. A bit painful having to create xml chapter file though. The result is great playing through my DNLA server to WD TV Live player.
However, my point remains that mkv is a format that supports chapters (and subtitles) which means it should be technically possible for Powerdirector to take the chapter points from the project and create the file.
I've attached the file info after the project was rendered with Smartfit. Clearly somebody thought it clever to limit frame rate rather than bitrate to confine the disc size. What a terrible idea!
And now I get it - checking the stream file on the disc, it's shown as 23fps............how on earth does it get produced like this?
An update - using Smartfit resulted in really notable stuttering of the video - especially during pans. The DL project was generally far smoother. I note the same issues either on the PC or the Panny.
Techically, I'm wondering whether it's a keyframe issue, and/or differences caused when rendering. Bear in mind that the source material is all 29fps/16000kbps the project is also set to 29.
Thanks Carl. Bang up to date and installed recently - i7 4790/16Gb/480Gb SSD/WD 2TB Black/GTX460.

The MKV produced by PowerDirector is the only one that stutters - everything else in HD is fine.
As I mentioned, setting as 'Baseline' sorts the problem completely.
Rendering at 24000kbps subjectively improves the quality.
I do believe though that Cyberlink should look to includeing the chapters during the MKV render. I'd prefer to be archiving my memories on the NAS rather than using optical.
Thanks Steve! Have just discovered the drop-down 'Smartfit'. Am burning my 37m project to a single layer DVD+R as I write.
Still somewhat ambivalent about buying into BDR just for my home productions. Ideally I'd like to render to MKV and archive these on my NAS, if only chapters were handled (see my other post today). I get the feeling that BD is not for the long term.
For the past 15 years I've used Pinnacle Studio, up to and including v15. Since the Avid takeover, the product changed enough to give me the push I needed to try PowerDirector.
As I do not have a BD burner, I've produced AVCHD onto standard DVD+R for the past few years. With Pinnacle, 35m was the upper limit on a single layer. Cyberlink appears to use a higher bit rate resulting in 25m tops. Consequently I used a DL disc for my project.

1. Disc not at all happy on my Panny BD35 - stutters occasionally and then becomes highly pixellated and distorted.
2. Plays well on my Sony BDP-S5100
3. I conclude the bitrate os causing the hassles on the Panny. Seems to run consistently at 22000-24500Kbps, which the newer Sony seems to tolerate. I'm also not convinced that the Verbatim +R DL 2.4x disc is that great a medium.

Now for my questions:

a) Can a custom AVCHD profile be created that will render at a lower bitrate, say 16000, and subsequently allow longer time on single layer DVD?
b) Are my concerns about the DL media real?
c) Should I be biting the bullet and purchasing a BD burner

Thanks, Duckysan

Have just tried to render to MKV for the first time, not wanting to invest in a BD burner to suit longer projects. Here's what I found:
1. Standard settings result in an unwatchable, stuttering movie when played with VLC.
2. Creating a custom profile and setting to 'Baseline' (the out-of-box was set to 'High') resolves this whilst retaining the 15500Kbps, 1920x1080, 29.97 frame rate.
3. Subjective evaluation of picture quality is it SEEMS washed-out in color compared with the AVCHD project I created earlier. Maybe I'll push the bitrate to 24000 and see what happens.
4. No chapter points are created - rather surprising as this should be a no-brainer feature

Anybody have any info that can assist?

Thanks, Duckysan
