All you have to do is name the file like you want the filename to be in the Produce filename Text box.
By the way you can copy the filename or Project name and paste that name in the produce text box.
You do not have to take the default file name "Produce" just delete and name what you want.
If you want to go to the trouble of changing the preferences on every project, you can do so. It is much easier to just copy and paste the name or Type the name in the Produce Text box.
Do that before you click "Start".
Thanks, I know. That's how I always do it.
It's not too hard to do, but it seems like we should have an option to always retain the original filename and then add a number after that.

Well, I submitted my ideas to customer support and they basically said something to the effect of "We understand your concerns, but those features aren't available in this product".
So, I guess things will remain the same. You know, I have other, 'less sophisticated' video editing software that remembers filenames and such. Too bad Cyberlink doesn't seem interested in tweaking a few things to make the overall editing experience a little more smooth.

You understand correctly.
If I have already assigned a unique name to the file, I just want the name to stay the same. I don't want everything renamed to 'Produce', Produce 1, Produce 2...etc.

Thanks.
For clarity, say I have a dozen home movie files that I need to edit.
I have already named these movie files, so I can easily find the ones I'm looking for.
The movies have names such as 'Bobs birthday party' and '4th of July barbecue'.
All I want is for the program to remember the original file names, or in other words, remember the original title and not rename the movie to 'Produce'
Edit: Thanks for the link, I submitted my suggestions there.

Thanks for the info. It's not exactly what I was looking for, but I do appreciate it.

Well, thanks anyway.
I think this would be a handy feature...many times I will produce a movie and decide it needs some small tweaks, then after the tweaks are applied I have to rename the movie again!
Is there a way to submit these ideas to the coders or developers of PD12?

Thank you for taking the time to respond.
If I may, I would like to respectfully try to clarify my small complaint.
I use PD12 to edit many different movies, I would always prefer to keep the original file name.
Instead, PD12 always renames the files to Produce, and in doing so, requires me to enter the original title again.
Maybe you explained how to preserve the original file name without having to re-enter it, and I still can't figure it out.
If not, I think this would be a nice feature that would make things a little more convenient for people like me.

You can use File > Save Project As, you can then add the number.
Do not use the Save icon on the top of the interface.
Keyboard Shortcut for 'Save Project As'=Ctrl+Shift+S
Press all three keys at the same time.
Okay, for clarification, when using the 'Save Project As', are you saying to navigate to the folder where the original video file is located, then select that title to save as, then add a number? Currently all of my projects are saved by the name of 'Produce' by default.
If so, I appreciate the info, but I would like to just have the original file name preserved as the default. I've used other editing programs that do, and it makes things quicker and easier.

Thanks for the reply.
Okay, maybe all these things aren't possible with this program right now, but I see no reason why they shouldn't be.
Can anyone direct me to a place where I can submit ideas to the programmers of this fine software?

Hello,
I have tried to find a way to avoid having to rename every project that I import into Powerdirector 12 when I save it.
Is there a way to always use the original title and just add a number at the end?
Also, I almost always change the window size and position when I open PD12. Is there a way to always remember the window size and position when I open the program?
One more thing. I almost always produce my projects with the same parameters, (MPEG-4 1920 by 1080 30fps) Is there a way to use these parameters as default?
