Thanks to all for the support. I have found the solution via another line of inquiry. Turns out that while Windows 7 provides the driver for the 1394 Firewire interface, it will not work correctly with the Sony Handycam. I had to switch to a Legacy version of the driver. Now PD12 works fine.
DCR-TRV20 is a digital tape camera. No hard drive. No files. Wouldn't have to capture them if they were already files. The HD kind of camera just corrupts your files straight away (like my crappy Flip UltraHD did when my daughter was talking to Santa for the first time).
I am a new user to PD12 and am already frustrated. Hook up my Sony via firewire. The video can be seen (no audio) in the playback window. None of the control buttons will work in PD except the "wheel" control (don't like this at all). Tried Manual Capture and Auto Capture with no results. Tried various Profiles and capture formats. Nothing. The "User Guide" gives next to no details.

I've seen plenty of Capture" issues in the forum but nothing specific to Sony or lack of control or capture.

Expert suggestions would be appreciated. Running WIN7 and the latest PD12 patch.
