For the record, added an additional 45 second clip to a 58 minute working video of vacation pictures, re-authored and VobBlanker did not fix it. And frankly I am getting tired of trying to debug what is critical factors to keep PowerDirector videos functional.
Still waiting for resolution of all the code dump and system information filed with system support under bug CS001309071. They have only had the files for a week so it's fairly early.

The menu problem is also discussed under "Menu Highlight With No Thumbnail".
Several of us are experiencing an inability to save menus and even worse have discovered that after repeated tries the save might work, but the DVD will crash a standard DVD player. By crash I mean lock it up so that you have to unplug it from the wall to recover.
Other tools have shown that the menus are incorrectly constructed. In one discussion thread I reported you could run VobBlanker on the files to see the menu errors ... but that posting has been removed.

Checked log again, if I read more I think it is say there is no VOB menu and the IFO menu is missing things.

Tony,
I wouldn't delete them from DZ. If they are working for you and other users then I would still assume there is something unique about John and my setup. Without those menus, users don't have any option.
Also I checked some of the 'stock' menus and they are crashing the DVD player too. And all work fine on a PC.
And yes ... the VobBlanker message sequence doesn't make sense to me either ... but the summary at the beginning reports those things are missing and in the end says it's rebuilding them ... then things work.
I really like Power Director editing, but I am beginning to regret switching over from Pinnacle (it was time to add Blu-ray so I thought I would evaluate new software).
Oh ... and I never told you ... but having someone who the menu DOES work for, and getting that feedback, does help. It gives me incentive to keep searching for what is different. If no one gets it to work I would assume we're dead in the water with no options.
Cheers to you too my friend
Mike

Guys,
Some good new information. I took the DVD that crashes the players and ran it through a utility called VobBlanker (circa 2005).
It reported the following:
VTS_01 ... menu does not exist
(then somehow recovered and found the menu)
then
VTS 01 VTSM_C_ADT did not exist
VTS 01 VTSM_VOBU_ADMAP did not exist
Then you click on "Process", it rebuilds tables, wrote out a new set of files and my DVD works !!!
I don't know what those messages mean, but hopefully someone familiar with DVD PGC chains and codes does and can fix the problem.
Meanwhile, I think I have a work around.

That was what I was worried about ... that the last action wasn't the cause of the save working but just a random event.
My wife took the burned DVD to my daughter's house and it totally crashed her DVD player too. Her power cords are all hidden in the back of the media center so she was NOT happy about having to pull out equipment, trace the wire and unplug to get the DVD to work again.
DVD works great on the PC player but totally incapacitates a stand-alone player!!! I'm amazed that a 'bad menu' can crash DVD players that hard!

Update on status .... it kept bothering me that most other people don't have a problem. So I went back into KISS 14 and tried several different things. I clicked in every menu with no difference.
Then I think I moved the thumbnail slider bar to the left before saving. This time .... it SAVED !!!
John, if you've got time, it might be informative to see if you can modify KISS 14 now also, by just moving the thumbnail slider fully to the left.
The modified KISS 14 works OK in preview mode on the PC so I rendered and burned a disk. The disk still crashes the LG player if I click to play. If I let it timeout to play, it starts over 10 minutes into the video and the 'Play' button is shadowed on the screen.
My wife is going to take the DVD to our daughters and a friends tomorrow to see if it plays properly or differently on their players. Just trying to eliminate all variables and understand what is happening here.
Meanwhile, I am trying a different experiment to see if the sound track I had clipped out of another song might be the problem. Also change the selection indicator to an arrow instead of highlighting text in a different color.
I'm just started the rendering, so iIt will probably be tomorrow before I can check it out.
Once I get my DVD working, I'll return to the KISS 14 or another KISS menu to see if I can get it to crash again.

Glad to hear that you are fixed.
I tried Papido's menu and yes I can modify and save it. However, what he did is make all of the content thumbnails really small and move them off of the visible surface. At least for me, I can't click on the text (even in PowerDIrector preview) and have it jump to content.
And a rendered DVD failed in the player again. I think there must be something basic in the menus that the LG player doesn't like, although it plays commercial DVD and Blu-rays fine.
The support staff asked for crash dumps on the machine and I have sent them in. Will update everyone once they figure out what is going on.
Thanks to everyone who is working to solve this.

I have reported this error too. The KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) menus (which are exactly what I am looking for) will cause PD12 to crash if you try to modify and save them. Actually if you load it and then try to save it without modifying anything will cause a crash.
Further, even if I take KISS 14 and generate a DVD, the play text stays on the screen (slightly grayed out) while the main content plays. Also the DVD started about 14 minutes into the first track. .... argh !!!
For the most part, I like the editing section of the program ... but it is really annoying that from the menu designer you can't add a chapter button that is text only. OR I can't find a way to add the chapter thumbnails as (the only) static image to the chapter select either. Maybe I'm over-looking something simple, but posts from other people on other forums suggest this is an oversight from the developers who are more interested in show off their cool effects than generating a solid, flexible interface.

Just tried DVD with standard KISS 14 menu in my LG DVD player
The 'Play' button text stays on the screen
The DVD starts late (~14 minutes into Chapter 1)
--- arghhh

Good morning,
The KISS of death occurs if I open the menu and :
a) only change the font of the title to one of the normally released 'Character Presets' and try to save
b) only change the button to one of the normally released 'Navigation Buttons' and try to save
c) just try to save it again without making any modifications.
Notes:
a) I am running PD12 Ultra ... patched to rev 2230 (latest and greatest)
This is a clean install ... just bought the software yesterday - 11/10/2013
Only previous version of PD was trial version which I evaluated with no custom downloads for about a week.
b) I can use the KISS 14 menu as is and save the project without a problem.
c) I can use the KISS 14 menu as is to create DVD image without a problem
Opening the KISS 14 menu with 'Modify' and then 'Saving' will cause a problem regardless whether the user modifies something trivial or in fact makes no modifications at all.
BTW: Cyberlink gets major credits in my book just for reading their e-mail and responding - and very quickly too. Thank you very much. I am impressed.
Thanks

I have the same problem ... editing a KISS menu is death to Power Director 12.
Still need a simple menu ... I want a simple background with 14 topics to choose from and don't want the auto-thumbnail revealing the slides to the audience early.
