Well, that was stupid - I'm not sure of me, or if it's a stupid program design.
I can't edit the values in the template when setting it up. It has to be "Item 1", "Item 2", ..., "My Videos", etc.
However, after I've selected it (I'm in the Content tab, NOT the Menu Preferences, I can change the values there.
And, equally unfortunate, any changes to the template defaults ("My Videos", "Scenes", "Play", etc) at that point crashes PD12.
I'm going to have to tell her this just isn't a tool for casual use. Even if I can eventually get it to work, it's too temperamental and there is no way she's going to be able to do it herself.
Thanks for you help.

Oops. I thought hey were menu formats.
1) Your first image (rename) isn't what I can't get to work. I'm trying to alter the title that appears at the top of the Root menu's. It's "default" is "My Videos".
Most of the time, that's what it stays. In my 11/10 post, it somehow got changed to "Season 1", but I can't figure out how!
I also can't change the resolved "My Videos" value in the Chapter menu (in my 11/10 post, it stayed "My Video" and was the 1st level below "Season 1" in the Menu Structure.

I downloaded it from the DirectorZone. The two that were "default" on the trial version were "Cinematic", which wouldn't do anything, and "DVD Menu 1225".
DVD Menu 1225 was giving me the same error, so I downloaded the other one (My Video - DVD - Page 4 5th format in DZ). It was the first "basic" one I found at the time.
I've been trying to get a new, from scratch, menu to work, with similar results. I'll try the two you have above to see what I can do with them.
In the mean time, is there a way to change what "Item 2" resolves into ("Scenes")? For one thing, "Scenes" implies what you say Chapters are. For another, the project I'm working on is to make a DVD of TV Show episodes - so I'd like it to say "Episodes".
Thank you for your help.

Or, did you? I can't find it there.
Can you give me a link to the new thread?

It should have been in PowerDirector 12 forum - that was where I clicked on "New Topic".
THank you for moving it.

Here are 3 images. The first is the template - I've circled the red I can't change or remove. I can't see what Item 3 is for (root), nor can I see any properties that explain what it is for.
The second is what the template "turns into" when previewing. Now, I spent almost two days trying to change the title from "My Videos" to anything else. Of course, today when I open the project to take screen shots, it has "Season 1" (darvit!). I have no idea where, or how, that was changed. It was definitely "My Video" when I saved it because that was just before I submitted this thread original post.
The third is the Menu Structure; which is now showing "Season 1" as the root. But, I still can't change the Root or sub menu titles. The last time I was in, at one point it did let me change the sub menu name - but I can't remember what I did. Even at that time, the same action wouldn't allow me to change the Root title - only the sub-menu. Now, despite it showing "Season 1" in this screen, I can't get it to let me change either value again. >Right Click< does nothing, and >Single Left Click< doesn't enter Rename mode (this method works in some of the other screens).
I also can't see how to change the root menu value (Item 2) "Scenes" to, for instance, display "Episodes" instead. Nor can I see how to make it allow for more than 4 videos per sub-menu, or how to add additional "Item" values on the root menu to allow for jumping immediately to a specific "group" of videos.
For instance, there are 8 groups of "My Videos" with 4 episodes each in this project. Ignoring the fact that each is titled "My Video", it's stupid to have to scroll through each one sequentially (> icon) rather than having a "Episode 1-4", "Episode 5-8", etc on the Root menu to jump immediately to the desired episode.
I know how to add text to the template. When when that is previewed, they disappear the same way "Item 3" does in the examples above.
What this client is asking me to show her is how to make a BluRay disk of the TV show CD's and DVD's she has so she can reduce the number of disks. We expected it to be a simple, click, click, type a little, and burn the BluRay. But, without detailed instructions and/or more the hyper-speed tutorials, the instructions that exist are so cursory as to be worthless.
If you can tell me where there are detailed instructions on this, or a tutorial (not the 3 minute hyper-speed version on Cyberlink), I can see if I can work it out.
STEVEK, what do you mean "wasn't designed to burn ANY ..."? I thought that was specifically what it (PowerDirector) was designed for? The PowerDirector 12 site has "comprehensive tools for high-quality video productions - all with easy-to-use features and fastest 64-bit video editing" as their description. Video production would seem to include menu's (even if "easy to use features is an outright lie). Wouldn't the fact that the function used to "finish" a project is "Create Disk" confirm that???
Am I wrong in interpreting the description this way? If PowerDirector isn't for video production, what software would be?

Firs, I have never, ever, worked with a software package that is so unser-unfriendly as this product. I mean, the software itself is setup in such a way to purposely make it impossible to use it without a manual - and then, the manual is written in a manner that leaves about 60% of the software completely unexplained!
The first question I have, in fact discovered less than 2 minutes after trying to use the product the first time, and which remains unanswered despite reading the manual 3 times and attempting to use the software for over 28 hours, is HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE STUPID "MY VIDEOS" label that is everywhere? No only should this be easy to do, it should be obvious. And, it should be clearly documented in the user manual.
Second, how do you delete these stupid "Item 1", "Item 2", and "Item 3" things? They are completely worthless from what I can se. The manual doesn't even come close to explaining their purposes, especially since you CANNOT CHANGE THE TEXT!!!!
And, to add insult to all of that injury, the only "tutorials" I can find outside of Cyberlink (meaning ones that actually take more than 3 minutes to go into details) are for 5 or 6 versions ago.
If I wasn't working on someone else's project (evaluating the software before they fork over the cash), I'd tell 'em to forget it. Unfortunately (for me), they're stuck on this at this point because their "best friends son's girlfriend loves it." If it's impossible to use without 3 degrees, a wigi-board, and 12 experts in close attendance, what good is it?
