Tony! Thank you my man!
Carl, thanks for the Google search (that I obviously tried already). However this search brings up answers to the question 'my mobile does not play at all on mobiles' - this is not the problem I am having! I am not explaining the same thing again anymore.
Tony, I produced to AVI because the audio did not sound as good whenproduced to MP4, I don't know why. That's crazy that it fits perfectly on your iPhone screen - I'm going to double check on my girlfriend's iPhone.
On my Xperia Z it has a black box around it.I'm going to try swtiching to 16:9 in PD14 and producing again... (I chose 4:3 originally because you got more image out the vertical clips but maybe that's the best of a bad bunch of final outcomes it could be. Let's see...)
Thanks for your help

I don't think anyone understands me.
I'm aware of the correct dimensions to upload to YouTube and i know mobile videos are far from ideal. I did not go out of my way to create a video using mobile phones. I had collected the clips, and THEN wanted to make a video out of them as I had a good idea for a music video.
I uploaded to YouTube, had an issue with some of the clips, including the first one having a black box around it - however I fixed this so that these clips appeared widescreen, but the problem remains when viewed on a mobile...
I don't want a lecture on how not to upload vertical mobile phone clips, I juts want to know if there is ANY fix to make the problem clips fill more of the screen on a mobile device. Whether there is a tag I can use, or producing it as a different file format, or anything.
If anyone has an idea I'd love to hear.
Thank you

I'll try not to be offended by that link!
I know half the videos are in portrait (which I hate - preaching to the choir) but I fixed the issue when watching on a laptop. Yes the vertical clips have big black spaces either side - these I'm not worried about. It's the clips horizontal clips where they shrink in size and are surrounded by black..
Look at the difference watching the first clip on a laptop then a mobile. On a laptop it looks fine, wide-screen with just bars at the top, but on a mobile it has a black box all around it. There must be a way to get it looking the same on a mobile as it looks on a laptop?
If anyone could help I'd be over the moon.
Many thanks

I guess I'll just have to use the drag onto the timeline method, no matter how arduous!
Hopefully it'll be a feature in the future.
Cheers!

Hi all
I have spent hours putting together a music video made of various clips recorded on different mobile phones. To get the best view of them all in PD14, I used 4:3 as 16:9 was pretty rubbish for the clips recorded in portrait.
I produced it as an .AVI clip (I tried both x265 variations but the sound was not great on the base) and uploaded it to YouTube. It did not fill the screen correctly when I played it, so I used a combination of the below formatting tags to make it as full size as possible...
yt:quality=high: Defaults to a high quality stream (available based on the size of the viewer’s player and the size of the browser window)
yt:crop=16:9: Zooms in on the 16:9 area, removes windowboxing
yt:stretch=16:9: Fixes anamorphic content by scaling to 16:9
yt:stretch=4:3: Fixes 720x480 content that is the wrong aspect ratio by scaling to 4:3
yt:crop=off: Deactivates cropping effects on the video and re-establishes cropped areas
....however when i play it on a mobile device, the image is small again and does not fill the screen as much as when i watch it on a desktop/laptop.
Here is a link to the video if you wanted to test it/see what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5FAaUAvWg4
If anybody can help so that I can get this video looking the same on all devices that would be greatly apprciated.
Yours hopefully
Nick

I have experienced problems with both PD11 and now PD14 when i use many video clips on the same project.
I am talking about chopping up many clips recorded on mobile phones and used in a 4 minute video, to produce a music video.
I am guessing i have about 30 short clips over a 4 min period, all with audio turned off. I do not have many effects on them, some have speed change, a few have fade out, but nothing else. If i go to edit a clip in the middle somewhere and put an effect on it, it seems to mess up clips later on in the timeline (some go jerky, some lose the effect they had, some speed up, slow down or trim the end off).
A fix i found was to move the clip i want to edit completely away, put an effect on or edit however, and then move it back into its position on the timeline. Even then this did not work sometimes and was causing problems with the next clips.
It was starting to drive me crazy. sometimes i thought i had fixed it all and then i'd produce it and realise one clip just stutters a bit, and i have to go back and try and fix it again. Infuriating when you have spent hours already trying to perfect it.
Any idea why this is happening? Is it just that PD is not very good at handling as many short clips as that over a small amount of timeline?

Thanks for the replies!
It's a bit disappointing that, although you can see how the effect behaves as just as effect, you cannot preview how it would interact with your video. Just a 5 second preview would do...

Hi all
I am new to Powerdirector 14, however did use PD11 so am not a complete rookie.
One question I have is to ask if there is a way to preview effects on your video, besides dragging each effect one by one onto your video on the timeline and pressing play?
Is there no way to hover over each effect and watch what that would do to your video, similar to how you get on photo-editing programs?
Not sure if I just cannot work out how to do it, or if it is not possible due the program/system not being able to handle it (although surely a 5 sec preview when you hoverered over an effect should be a possibility?).
Many thanks

This is driving me insane.
I have put together a video of about 20 video clips (all .AVI) and one audio track (.WAV) and when I watch it in the timeline it is fine, however when I produce it (in any output file) differnt clips are appearing and I cannot work out why.
I have clicked on everything I can find and the only solution I can think of is to start again which would take so long and waste so many hours I have already put into it.
I have a couple of sped-up or slowed-down clips but only short ones and the track in total is only abou 3 mins.
Has anybody come across this or have any ideas how to fix it??
Please

Thanks guys, both really helpful.

I was wondering where to get more effects to use in PD11? Nothing in particular, just in general.
I have read about NewBlue which seems to be the only official plugin so to speak. Anybody think it's any good?
On a side note, here is my first published video if anybody is interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0LRc-mO5vg

Hello
For all the features PowerDirector 11 has, I am slightly disappointed to find that you can only move files from one second to the next.
For example I am trying to sync video and audio to make a music video and I have the video starting at 00:00:00:00. I have the audio starting at 00:00:07:00 (7 seconds in) on another track.
However I feel like the audio is slightly early so tried moving it to 00:00:08:00 but this seems slightly late. Ideally I am guessing I need the audio to start around 00:00:07:30 (7 1/2 seconds in).
I think I read somewhere this is NOT possible in PowerDirector.
a) Is this true?
b) If so, does anybody know a movie editing program I could download where you can start a file exactly where you need it to?
Many thanks in advance.
Nick
