Whats all this about
I use windows xp on a dell optiplex 760 ( OK not that flash but worked ok in the past with everything else.) PD ultra 10
I have however always found problems in writing a dvd strait from PD with all versions I've had.
I have to write it to a file and then use Nero to burn it to a disc. this can't be right? arn't you suppose to be able to produce a DVD from the program. or have i got this wrong.

I retried it again using a slower write speed~#@% nothing
I retried it again using just write the disc~#@% nothing
I retried it again using different make of disc~#@% nothing
I even changed the disc writer as I happen to have a new one hanging about ~#@% nothing
this has taken all day. and still on DVD

if it can not write the disc why can't it just say?
if the file it has just written to be put on the disc is not compatible why has it written it like that?
if the file in the content on the time line is incompatible how come it can write it to a file?

I am confused

forgot to say:
It just a strait forward DVD on flash menu. one video to play strait away.
thanks WILHELM G HANSEN and BarryTheCrab, I will stick with it.
today I am capturing some old stuff from VHS tapes through a Canopus ADVC100 with PD and so far every thing seem fine. fingers crossed. meanwhile I'm sat here reading the forum my my other PC. got a few good tips already.

the Field of dreams was done with the trial PD

Quote: Fungus - try to be patient. I can identify with the frustrations of learning something very new. Every time I start something I've never done before, it's the same thing - frustration, the feeling that things shouldn't be so difficult, and - for me - a long period of thinking that I'll never learn. But I always learn, and often the learning comes suddenly, after days or weeks of frustration.

You have one of the very best video editing programs out there, and the forum is among the better ones too. Stay with it.

Thats the thing. editing is not new to me. I've been editing as a hobby for years. right back to super 8 mm film days. I started editing on my PC when you had to render over night because it took so long. I have used loads of different video editing programs, never expensive. the last one being Uleads mediastudio 8 pro which i upgraded to on an offer (excellent program used for several years). Since coral have taken over Ulead, they decided no longer to support MS8pro which is why I looked around and found Powerdirector, several magazines said it was the best so i tried a trial version. which seemed OK, however it would not import the AVI(h264) files which i needed, i would need to upgrade to the full version to import those files, so I thought I'd go for it. Powerdirector 10 ultra ( the best).
problems ever since.
I only hope some one from Cyberlink reads these forums and at lest try to address the problems on future versions.
i am shore these problems will be sorted out in time. i just feel there is a lot of work needed to make the software more user friendly.
I have found a use for it though. i use PD to covert the AVI(h264) 30 FPS file to DV-AVI @ 25 FPS. which it does better them any other program i have tried and then use MS8pro to edit and burn the DVD

i will keep on trying and reading the forum, thanks again for all your help

thanks for your help. but i would like to get this sorted.

it's just so frustrating.....
i don't understand this.

why can't i just video my stuff in what ever format the camera does import it in to PD 10 then burn a simple DVD to play on my PAL DVD player that is connected to the TV.
why make it so confusing. it should be the default setting when you click on DVD video. Uleads video studio used to do it as did mediastudio. you set your TV area to what ever it is in preferences (PAL) then any thing you burn for the TV is sorted.
Simple's One would think.

i am new to power director 10 ultra (but not to video editing) but i went for it this time because it promised to be the better editing and sharing package at the time. however i have not been able to get to grips with it. all i went to do is edit some video. avi(H264) and burn a DVD to view on the TV via and Panasonic DVD player. some nice DVD menus and some fancy transitions would add to the finished article but are not important. however i find PD 10 good at the fancy bits but the simple act of producing a DVD strait from the program is impossible. if i write it to the hard drive then use a disc writing software to write it to disc that works OK but the disc is never player compatible. irrespective of the software i use.

windows XP SP3
Powerdirector 10 ultra

have i got the wrong end of the stick and wasted my money (and it's not the cheapest £80) thinking i can do what i wanted with this package.

please please can some one help
thank you for the replay Carl312

I guess the simplest thing are often the most difficult get. I assumed because it's simple that it would be possible.

can you import DVD menus from other software? or is it simpler to get another DVD writing software?
is there or can you make a simple one page menu for power director 10.
most of the dvds i make are for one or maybe two videos. the multitued of pages in the dvd menus just make it very confusing to the people i give them to, i.e. family and friends.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
i Know i'm new to power director but it doesn't seem very intuitive. i am beginning to wish i stuck with corals video studio.

So can someone please help, it seems a good editor but i am finding it tuff.
