hey guys, here are my updates so far...

*I verified that I am using the latest version of cyberlink power director 9 ultra 64
*I installed instacodecs_1290 and ffdshow_rev3949_20110725 (hope I did this correctly, I just googled them and downloaded each pack and installed)
*I updated my video card driver
*I confirmed that the video clips I was trying to install had a .MOV extension and the file type was quicktime

...so I started up the application and the first thing it did was freeze for a few seconds like it was before all the changes, then it got a hold of itself and actually started working correctly, I have yet to do any real editing but the app is definitely responding a lot better than before, all of the basic right clicks and un links are no longer causing crashing problems, I have by no means done any real editing so I will update this thread once I do some real work to see if any of the symptoms come back but for now it looks much better

THANKS GUYS FOR ALL YOUR HELP ON THIS!!!!!

2 more questions...the first thing I did to diagnose this issue was to change the virtual memory on my machine to initial size 12288 and max 12288 (this was recommended by the cyberlink support team), do you guys recommend i keep these settings...lower them, raise them? also, ynotfish eluded to the fact that my graphics card wasn't exactly the greatest, was just wondering if this is something I should really invest in and upgrade and if it will really make much of a difference on my system (i couldn't find where to check if hardware acceleration was turned on and also didn't know how that would help or hurt things), also wondering if more ram would make a difference

again thanks for all the great input
One more thing to note before I check my system out tonight....I was able to load the files and preview them in the application so its definitely recognizing the format of video...would this codec problem allow me to preview the files but still cause freezing issues? I assume that it would be an all or nothing deal if the the application didn't support whatever codec my camera is using.
Thanks Fred...I'll give an update when I can get home and check all this stuff out. I'm 99% sure that I have the latest version...I recall checking the patch and comparing it to the version that I downloaded to rule that out. I will make sure of all this and update this thread.
Hi Fred and ynotfish...I just downloaded this software about 5 days ago and it is the latest version. I am not getting any warning messages, I literally load about 5 short clips and then try to navigate around the program and unlink the audio from the video and within the 3rd to 4th unlink, the program just freezes up with no error message. I will have to go home to check on the hardware acceleration setting and on the video type. Thanks for all of the input so far.
Sorry...here is the dxdiag file attached. I will have to go home to see what type of video clip but at least it sounds like my machines specs are not the problem here
I just purchased CyberLink PowerDirector 9 Ultra64 from the website and everything installed fine. The problem I am encountering is when I start the application up and add about 5 short clips of video (5-10 seconds for each clip). Once I click on a few of the clips and attempt any sort of edit, the application stops responding and I am forced to shut it down. I have reinstalled this about 5 times now and it continues to do the same thing. I contacted the support group and they asked me to modify my virtual memory settings (I changed them to initial size 12288 and max size 12288 ) and to start up my pc up in selective startup mode None of these changes have helped. My system specs are as follows and should be able to handle the edit of a few short clips of video. At this point I think there is something glaringly wrong with the application because my computer should handle these basic edits with no problem. I expect things to slow down once your dealing with a 1/2 hour of footage but this is freezing up within minutes. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Are there any obvious tweaks I need to make right out of the gate for this software to work?

I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-500f with a 64-bit Windows 7 operating system, an AMD Radeon HD 6450 graphics card (512MB) and an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Processor with 2.70 GHz (8.00GB RAM).

Thanks
