Yes, importing directly from the camera to the hard drive worked great. No problems bringing it in with PD9. Now I know this is a DVD burning issue.

The second part is the content recorded from television with my DVD recorder. Yes, I have always finalized the recordings. I am using a JVC DR-MV77SU DVD recorder. Cannot view that first file still with each recording.

I have been able to load the DVDs with those bad VOB first files into AoA Ripper on my computer and create one large file. Then it did work in PD9. So this allowed me to use the content I was having trouble with. But it's an extra step.

Thanks so much for the help here!
Sorry, I mean a DVD recorder hooked up to my television. I have never received a copyright message. Would think that would be the case for all VOB files, not just the first one.

When I try to open that first VOB file in PD9 it crashes and closes automatically now.

What I have not done yet is import the media directly from my camera into PD9. I have burned a DVD first and then tried to load. But again, used different DVD burners and both crash the first file.

All this has to do with some way in which the DVDs are being burned. Once I got the CRC message while trying to copy from DVD to my hard drive I knew there was bad data in this file. But the DVD still plays great in all my players.

No fix with the build 3350 update.

I found out that when I transfer some of these first VOB files from the DVD to the computer hard drive, they will not copy because of a CRC error (bad data).

I cannot figure out why all my recordings even from different sources are doing this.
I cannot view that first VOB file in VLC player. I can view it on my DVD player when it starts up. I can also view it in my AoA DVD Ripper software.

I can convert that first file to another form. I tried converting it to a wmv file and that worked. Then I just opened that in PD9 but lost some quality of the video. I don't wish to do this with every recording so have to find out why that first VOB file cannot be opened. Again, doesn't matter what source I used to record (either by camcorder or DVD player) I cannot read that first file.

Am downloading new build file now.
Thanks Carl312

These are DVDs that were recorded directly from my camcorder. Another was recorded directly to my DVD player hooked up to the television. No copyrights.

VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB

They all work fine when I import them in PD9. Only the VTS_01_1.VOB won't work. And it is that way for all of the DVDs regardless of the source (camcorder or TV/DVD player recording).

I have a full licensed version of PD9 downloaded directly from Cyberlink. Using build 2330.
Howdie!

I am trying to import VOB files from a DVD (they are on my hard drive). There are 5 VOB files. The last 4 can be imported and edited just fine. The very first VOB file VTS_01_1 can not be imported into PD9. This is happening with every DVD I have even from multiple souces. I am getting a pop up box that states this file may be corrupted or not a usable format, etc. Sometimes it even crashes PD9.

When I try to import the file, I can see it in the RichVideo Information box and can even view it. When I then try to open it, no deal.

I am thinking this has something to do with the fact the menu is on the first VOB file? Not sure. Anyone else ever encounter this problem? Thanx.

My issue/question is: Why can't CL make you register the CD Activation Key upon installation first? Why does Cyberlink allow PD to be installed and then 30 days later tell you this product needs an online activation?

What this does is actually allow people to get away with selling an unlicensed product. Me, for example, bought one on eBay, used it for 30 days thinking this was a legit product and then boom, it could not longer function. If the pop up had told me upon initial installation that the CD-Key needed to activated then I would have sent it back to the seller with a 30 day return policy.

I don't get it.

If the Codec Activation is from a third party and needs activated through them, then this software product is really bad business and should at the least state so on the outside package. This is like buying a 12 oz Coke at the store, taking it home to drink, opening it and taking two sips only to be told I now need to go online and activate the carbonation through Acme Industries. Very unsound business practice.

Follow up FYI...I received a full refund from the eBay seller of this product since the codec activation had expired. I am now going to purchase PD9 online directly from Cyberlink! Should I do more than just uninstall the old expired version so I can guarantee this product will work with the new codecs activated?

Thanks, this is a good product when it worked. And I have already put in much time on the learning curve with this software. Don't wish to change.
A follow up...customer service has told me they cannot support their product sold on eBay. Understood. The PowerDirector software I purchased no longer works because of this codec activation.

I am currently attempting to stop all Cyberlink sales on eBay as illegal sales are obviously taking place. I will keep the forum posted on the topic.
While I completely understand and support protecting against software piracy, there are many different avenues for said protection and this one is a new one to me. I was curious as to why the original CD-Key just can't be activated online instead of waiting for the CA to be activated also.

My PowerDirector 9.0 purchased on eBay came delivered in unopened original packaging but can no longer be used after the 30 days because of these CA protectors. Because the seller does not appear to be a licensed dealer I have no recourse other than coming after him through eBay while trying to stop the eBay sale of this product. And this seller had great feedback value and has been on eBay for a very long time.

I would change your wording to say "Never buy a NEW OR USED" PowerDirector Product from anyone other than a licensed seller. Using the term "unknown" distributor is a very loose term. i.e. There is a local computer store down the street who I would not buy this product from without a written guarantee.

Thanks for your help

Sorry...forgot to mention that I can open wmv files in PD and work with those. The MPEG 2 activation thing is triggering the issue with other file types. Thanks, any help would be appreciated.
My story would just be a repeat of the several that are already on this thread/topic. That is why I jumped into this thread as opposed to starting a new topic. I actually tried all the recommendations on here too.

In short, when I try to import media files (VOB files for me) the pop up box appears:

You must first activate this feature before using it. Connect to the Internet and then try again. Activation is a free and quick process.

MPEG2 - Component activation

The codec trial has expired. Please connect to the Internet to activate now.

--When I click Activate a new pop up reads:
Codec activation incomplete. This may be because the Internet connection was disconnected, or the program activation key is invalid or reached its activation limit.

This is the same message everyone else seems to be getting and is what is also listed under the patch 2930 explanation.

I have PowerDirector 9.0 and am running load 2930 after installing the patch. I purchased the disc in its unopened retail box from eBay. It worked great for about a month or so and now I can't even load my projects created then.

Obviously by other accounts, there is something in my registry that keeps telling PD the codec has expired. It's not an internet connection issue. Uninstalling and reinstalling, new patches, etc. does not fix it. Don't want to purchase a registry cleaner.

After 6 hours yesterday trying to find a solution, yes it is frustrating to see so many others have this problem with no fix in place after all this time. I sent my problem to cust. service and got a ticket #. No reply.

Also, it can't be good when a google search on the issue reveals dozens of software companies that have a "code activation fix for PowerDirector 9" and then requires a membership to even look at what that might be. Yes, that's a sure sign of a software problem. I hope Cyberlink can help sooner than much later.
Actually, the 2930 patch does not fix the problem with codec activation.
