I was given a job to do and only realized afterwards that the miniDVs were taken with a PAL (as opposed to NTSC) video camera. I had to borrow a video camera to load the 17 or so dvs...only to find out that when I tried working with the files, it froze the program!
I tried changing the default to PAL in PD and THEN loading the dv - same issue. Tried working in NTSC and when it asked to convert - converted it...same thing. I was trying to cut a small piece out of the file which is all I needed. First I did a split after the first minute. That worked. Then I tried another split a minute later - froze. Tried to delete the whole chunk after the first minute - froze. I waited for a long while - it didn't matter.
I don't know if this complicates things or not, but many of the tapes were recorded in LP.
Right now, I told them that I had to quit on the job and they should find someone else. If I can find a solution quickly - I might still save this job.
My computer's specs:
Motherboard: Intel DH67CL B3 H67 (ddr3)
Intel Core i7 1155 Quad 2600 3.4ghz 8mb
Nvidia GeForce 550GTX 1GB
500GB SATA3 7200 WD hard drive (though I will be adding at least one more hard drive)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
12GB RAM.
Any ideas, thoughts, helpful hints - would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Yitz

I am looking for a firewire card that is compatible with Windows 7 64 bit to transfer my miniDV video footage from my video camera to the computer. My old card wouldn't work with it. Here are my computer specs:
Motherboard: Intel DH67CL B3 H67 (ddr3)
Intel Core i7 1155 Quad 2600 3.4ghz 8mb
Nvidia GeForce 550GTX 1GB
500GB SATA3 7200 WD hard drive (though I will be adding at least one more hard drive)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Thanks!

Thanks for all the help till now...
I tried putting in my old firewire card, but I guess it's not compatible with Windows 7 64bit.
Can you recommend a firewire card that is not too expensive, and is compatible with Windows 7 64 bit? I only use it to transfer my video on miniDV to the computer.
Thanks!

Thanks for all the responses. In the end, they didn't have the graphics card I wanted, so I got a slightly different model. These are the finals specs:
Motherboard: Intel DH67CL B3 H67 (ddr3)
Intel Core i7 1155 Quad 2600 3.4ghz 8mb
Nvidia GeForce 550GTX 1GB
500GB SATA3 7200 WD hard drive (though I will be adding at least one more hard drive)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
And I am going to have 12GB RAM.
Thanks!

I am in the middle of editing a video and in a number of scenes, objects are supposed to glow. I have been using the Star Trail particles and modifying their size and colour and it has been working so so for now. But in one scene I have a fountain with water coming out of a lion statue's mouth. Is there a way to make just the water glow?
Thank you so much...I only have 2 more days to finish this project!
I am using Powerdirector 9.

The cyberlink site recommends GeForce: 8500GT and above
or
9800GT and above
or
GT/GTS/GTX 200 series, 400 series, or 500 series.
How do you compare these? Which are in a similar price range as the one I mentioned, but better? I'm having trouble figuring this all out!
Thanks again

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies. Glad I joined this forum. Can you recommend a comparable card that won't add too much to my total cost? What rank should I be looking for?
I'm not worried about space because I'm going to add my 500gb hard drive from my old computer for now, and when I get a few jobs that pay off this computer, I'll add more memory. That can always be added later.
Thanks again!

I'm new to this forum so I hope this is the right place. I am planning on getting cyberlink powerdirector 9 and I wanted to know if the following computer specs are good for it. I am about to buy this computer, and I got a good price, but if there are small changes, now would be the time to make them. I have a GL2.
Motherboard: Intel DH67CL B3 H67 (ddr3)
Intel Core i7 1155 Quad 2600 3.4ghz 8mb
Quadro 600 1G-3 PCIE PNY
500GB SATA3 7200 WD hard drive (though I will be adding at least one more hard drive)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I am planning on running it with 9-12GB RAM
I do video editing as a side job, but I want a system that will last me the next bunch of years.
Thank you in advance,
Yitz
