No, sorry. Perhaps you can try to log a ticket with the PD helpdesk?

I eventually fixed it but the problem re-occurred when the Cyberlink sent me a registry cleaner after I reported an issue with Wave Editor.
The trick is to install everything in the right order. Re-installing ffdshow after you've installed PowerDirector does not work, so here's what I did to get everything to work again:
- remove Powerdirector
- remove Quicktime
- remove ffdshow
- run Cyberlink cleaner tool
- Install Quicktime
- Install ffdshow
- Install any other codec pack you might have (like K-lite)
- Install Powerdirector
It should work then.

I have the exact same message with MP3 files. Haven't been able to find out why, but it must be because the files use compression and either the program or your computer cannot cope with the compression.
Funny thing is I can work without AVI files without issues. One possible solution that was suggested to me was to install
ffdshow on my PC. Another would be to convert your files to a different before using. (I found synchronising easier with WAV files anyway).
Good luck!

Hi Robert,
Same issue. Neither PD8 nor 9 allows me to do anything with compressed audio. Could it have something to do with my slightly outdated computer that I lack the compressor speed required to handle these files?
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core - 3.01 GHZ
2 GB RAM
32 bit Win Vista
I just created my first sample video with PD9 and must say that I was blown away by the HD output of the photo slideshow, so so far PD has the edge over the other programs, even with the MP3 issue.
Now on to test Pinnacle Studio.

right... so it is either the trial version or it is something on my computer that prevents me from loading MP3s into this program whereas no other program has any issues.
Any ideas? I tried PD8 and the same thing happened. It will not let me load any compressed audio files into the medialibrary.
For now I'm converting all MP3s to WAV before I load them, but if the retail version of PD9 has the same issue, this will definitely be a no-buy
Thanks for all your help so far

..which confirms my suspicion that it is copyright related. Would you mind trying to import a WMA which is converted from a CD or downloaded?

Hi all,
I've downloaded the trial version of PD9 in order to compare some video editing software before I buy (the others are Videopad, Memories on TV and AVS4YOU).
However, for some reason the program doesn't let me use any of my own MP3s in the project I'm creating.
Whichever compressed file I try to import (MP3, WMA) I get the error message:
An error occurred while opening this media file in the media library. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content, or for another reason. Try contacting your video provider for a different video format
I've tried different formats, different bitrates, but none work. The only audio files I am able to import are WAVs.
Now I figured this could either be that the trial version does not support MP3, or, worse, that Cyberlink has embarked on some valiant crusade against illegal downloading and is only accepting audio files bought through the likes of iTunes.
Anyone any ideas here?
