wow... hard to get why you were all offended but you need to settle down a bit. we're all trying to help each other here.

just offering alternatives - and yes it works, as others in other threads have stated as well. I wouldn't suggest it otherwise.

mixing versions of drivers from the same vendor vs different vendors isn't adding confusion or creating more problems. Its potentially more error prone to mix versions of nearly identical installation packages anyway.

Installing the realtek drivers (which are what ATI uses anyway) is easy as its audio only, and doesn't interfere with anything else going on. I added here for alternative version for people to try when they search and encounter the thread. Thats not hijacking.
You can also just install the drivers directly from realtek (after uninstalling the 10.12 AUDIO drivers)
yes, the drivers direct from realtek did the trick. thanks!
despite their claims, they do not do 3D over the 6800 series. Hopefully they come clean and provide more information on a resolution to this shortly

also, there is no benefit to a 150 cable. its a digital signal - it either gets there or it doesn't. Take it back and pick up a $5 or $10 at newegg or monoprice. Monster is snakeoil, especially for digital signals.

Its sort of akin to spending 10x on a 'better' ethernet cable hoping you'll get 'clearer' network traffic
I installed the Realtek without uninstalling ATI first and didn't have any luck. Will try this path.

Thanks Alex

I haven't tried this yet, seems pretty involved. However, since it worked with my 5750 this morning but not my 6850 this afternoon, with all other equipment being equal, it seems like its related to PowerDVD and ATI 10.12 drivers with the new line of cards.
I have the same issue with the Radeon 6850. I had the 5750 and the HD Audio worked well over HDMI (TrueHD, DTS Master). After swapping to the 6850 and updating to the 10.12 ATI drivers, the high definition audio is not an option in the output dropdown.

I'm running PowerDVD 10 Mark II 2325 (latest patch). The older ATI drivers (10.11) won't work with the 6800 series card... could be related to the update to 10.12.
