I'm having problems getting my 1080P footage to save as either an mpg2 or AVCH file. I tried the process described above
" PD9 Support for 25Mbps 1080/50 or 60p AVC (High@L4.2) Most consumer NLE (including PD9) will read these clips just fine and allow you to put them onto the time line and render them out as a part of a project in various formats. One advantage PD9 currently has is the ability to also render projects back out in a similar format and bitrate (something most others cannot do).
Creating and Editing a Custom Profile : This is the first step as described by pjc3 but I would suggest that you initially create a custom profile (under the Produce Tab --> H.264 AVC --> Profile Type = Custom --> press the "+" button) and create one that is similar to the specs of your model of the Camcorder (eg 50 or 60p). For example my settings are:
Video Tab
- Resolution = 1920x1080
- Frame Rate = 50 (also available is 59.94 or 60 for your NTSC models)
- Frame type = Progressive
- Profile Type = High Profile
- Entropy coding = CABAC
- Average Bitrate = 22500 (put this in for now - we will manually edit it up to a high rate later)
Audio Tab (again match this to the spec you have set you cam to record in)
- Audio compression = Dolby Digital
- Audio channel = Dolby Digital 5.1
- Audio compression rate = 384
Once this is done you can then manually edit edit it in Notepad this profile to increase your bit rates ( C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\9.0\Profile.ini). For the 50p Cams I would suggest just bumping the following up (I know pjc3 uses higher rates on his 60p model)
<Video BitRate>24500000
<Max BitRate>28000000
...more to come on creating output"
I managed to follow this and PD9 will allow me to select these options on my new profile, but then I get an error message saying that the programme cannot produce the video and then I'm stuck.
I did send an email to the customer support asking if there was likely to be a patch, or some easier way of sorting this issue out, but the reply just directed me to a page where I could check if my Panasonic camcorder was "supported".
The trial version od Magix movie edit pro 17 seems to be able to handle these files, but I am more comfortable with PD and don't want to change.
I have windows 64bit 4GB Ram ATI radeon 5700, Intel i7 and PD9.
Any other suggestions?

I'm thinking of buying a new camcorder and see that the new models from Panasonic can record at 1920 x 1080P and 50 /60 P plus 28 mbps. That sounds great, but I notice that there have already been issues with editing 24 pbps and wonder whether PD would be able to edit these even higher data rates. I save my videos as mpeg 2 or H264 files on my hard drive to play on my HD television. I would like to save at maximum quality. There doesn't seem any point in buying a new camcorder if
1. I can only save my files as 25 P
2. I won't be able to save them at around 28 mbps
3. It will involve huge complications.
I see that many other video editing programmes struggle with 50 P and 28 mbps even if their computers are up to the job.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Good news! Despite checking my drivers and them seeming to be up to date, when I went on the Nvidia website and checked, my GT 330 M graphics card drivers were out of date and downloading the new ones appears to have done the trick.
I would suggest that other people on the forum who are having the same problem also download the latest drivers, even if their machine is new. Mine is less than 3 weeks old and I have software which checks for out of date drivers. I suggest that people check the site themselves and don't rely upon programmes etc to alert you.
Thank you for all on this forum for your advice and patience. I used to use Pinnacle and there was a less than happy vibe on their forums!
I can't wait to use PD9, so thanks again.

Yes, this is the same for me as well (see earlier post) - brand new laptop. I have checked to see that all traces of PD8 are removed but the problem persists. Drivers are all up to date. I'm at a loss!

Thank you for that - unfortunately it hasn't helped. The programme appears to start and windows reports that it has stopped working and shuts it down. I'm quite suprised because the programmes listed in my previous post are the only ones on my laptop, so there aren't dozens of programmes which could be causing this issue and my laptop is running fine otherwise.
I suppose I can go back to PD8, which works ok, but I feel reluctant to do that having paid for the upgrade to PD9. It's very disappointing! Maybe someone knows of something I have missed.
By the way, Maine is gorgeous. I was there a few years ago and remember watching some "reverse falls" and filming them, also the "Old Sow" whirlpool.
Thanks for your help

PD8 was always rock solid but I updated to PD9 and now I can't get it to load. It crashes and I get an error message saying PD has stopped working and windows has closed it down.
My laptop is brand new with windows 7 plus updates etc
Laptop is Sony VaioVPCF12MOE i7 core 64 bit Q 740 @1.73 GHZ 4GB RAM
It has Adobe photoshop elements 9
VCL media player
Norton Internet security 2010 and
Mozilla firefox.
installation of PD9 is fine and I put in my activation code without a problem, but PD crashes before it finishes opening.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times with the same result, also uninstalled and then installed the trial version. Finally, downloaded the programme again and reinstalled.
I then downloaded a trial of Magix movie edit pro 17 and that installs and works perfectly, so I'm at a loss what to do next. I really enjoy using PD hence being keen to update to the new 64 bit version which should be perfect for my new laptop - maybe I should have tested the trial version first.
Any sugestions on what to do next gratefully received.
Thanks
