I am not sure where your original HDV video from.
Maybe the problem lies in its incompatibility of Powerdirector 6.
Try to decode your HDV AVI video files to other common video formats, like WMV or divx avi.

And you can convert your DV video file to Apple MOV video format and for further editing.
The software I recommend is Aunsoft Video Converter which is powerful in converting DV video to other editable video formats, like MOV, AVI, WMV, MPEG, FLV, MKV, and etc.
If you would like to do some simple editing, this program will satisfy you.
The output vieo is in high quality without the high synchronization of video and audio.
