Thanks Nicolas! I will give it a try this evening and let the forum know how it goes.

EDIT: Didn't fix this problem. Thanks for the input just the same!
I swear I spent hours on this forum looking for other people having similar problems prior to posting... however...

I'm not certain from these threads that anyone has fixed the issue, but at least I have some things to try.
I've been having a similar problem.. only shows up with 60fps video. In my case the playback freezes at transitions as you described however it almost always ends in a total freeze of PD8. I think it may also have to do with running a 64 bit version of Windows as I have friends who use PD8 to edit video in 60fps using 32 bit windows and have no issues whatsoever.

I'll let you know if I figure it out. Frustrating.
Hi Folks! This is a real specific issue that I've been struggling with (unsuccessfully) for a few weeks. I've been recording video with a GoPro Hero using H.264 / AVC at 1280x720 and 60 fps. I find that when I am editing a project with one of these videos I get about 2 playbacks before PD8 stops responding. At first the preview video will stop playing leaving the last frame showing although the audio will keep playing as if everything is going normally. From this point I can hit pause or any other button and about 90% of the time PD freezes completely requiring me to kill it using Task Manager. The other 10% of the time no preview playback is possible and a complete freeze is never far off.

I haven't had this problem using clips recorded in H.264 / AVC at 1280x720 and 30 fps... or even higher resolutions at 30fps for that matter. I have been able to replicate the problem using other formats and encoders with 60 fps. I know people who use PD 8 with this same camera at these same frame rates and who haven't had the problem I'm seeing. The big difference between their setup and mine is OS.... I'm running a Dell Studio XPS 9000 -

Windows 7 64 bit home premium
6 gig of ram
intel core i7
nVidia GeForce 310

I know from reviewing the equipment and camera spec threads that others are using PD8 with systems very similar to mine but I can't find any references to lock ups due to 60fps video.

Anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions?

Thanks!
I had the same problem. Ultimately I don't know what the problem was, however I was (and continue to be) able to get around the problem by turning off the option to allow PD to use scratch files.
I realize that this is an ancient post, but I am having the same problem today using PD8 on Windows 7 64bit. Has anyone found a reliable solution to the disappearing timeline snippet issue?

Just to be clear, these are portions of video in a timeline for which other portions from the same root file still appear in the timeline as they shoud... weird!

EDIT
A very informative thread here:

Though the solution is still elusive... have much to try out tonight when I get home.
Too bad... I want it bad!
