I Tunes Audio files Unusable

I paid for and downloaded some music from I Tunes to use in my video. When I bring them into the library from "My Music" the icons appear, but when I try to play them in the media viewer, they go directly to the end, ( so nothing happens), and when I try to bring them into the music track, they are empty.
I can play them to listen to them on the computer.
These audio files are mpeg-4. Could my problem be that they are copy guarded, unlike other audio files which are MP3 or wav files?

Hi Doug,

I don't use itunes for my music, but here is a thread that probably explains what is happening to you. It offers some possible solutions. I hope it helps, although it may not as it didn't seem to help this particular person....I am not that familiar with the Protected format from itunes.

If the link Kevin posted doesn't help... IF

You could use a converter like Format Factory - http://www.pcfreetime.com/ - to convert it to wav or mp3

or pop it in Audacity - http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ - to render it in the same way... export as .wav.

I had to convert the iTunes music from mp4 to mp3 before I could use it on an mp3 player, so it's probably the same thing.

I'm always leery of freeware, so I used 4Media's mp4 to mp3 converter. Todd

Thanks all for the advice.
I was able to use one of the freeware programs to do the job. If I am not allowed to comment in this forum on which was best for me specifically, I should advise that one of them offered a so-called free program, but after installing it, was informed that it would only convert 60 seconds of any track, unless I now paid $30.00 for the real program.
One of the freeware was too complicated to use, but I found pcfreetime was perfect for my purpose ( moderator may delete that specific reference if you must), and the job is done.
I too was very leery as my security gave me warnings about the download, but it turned out to be safe.

Hi Doug & Todd -

Neither of those two pieces of software is a trial or shareware version, limited in any way... nor contain spyware, adware or anything about which one needs to be wary. FF is easy to use - drop and convert - if that's what you need. Audacity is far less complex than PD. I've used both for years with no issues.

I am glad you have been able to resolve your issue with sound files.

I didn't mean to infer anything about the software you talked about. I was just talking about my own experience (which was several weeks ago).

I had the same issue with .m4a (unprotected Quicktime AAC audio) files (I think Itunes no longer sells DRM protected music).
Installed patch 2508 and the problem went away, ITunes music now plays in PD8.
