Burning to folder fails

Hi!

I would really appreciate some help on solving my problems with burning my project to a folder. I have tried to read and follow some instructions given in previous threads here in the forum, but without any luck. I have also sent a message to the tech support but without any reply. I really need to get this to work, so someone please help me....

My project is about 28 minutes long with "raw" AVCHD material filmed with my Sony SR11 camcorder. I have transitions, a few PiP, effects, speed shifts, a menu, a few jpg and music on the music track (.wav and mp3). I have used shadow files during my editing.

I choose "Create disc", AVCHD NTSC 1980x1080 30 fps. I choose to burn to a folder at the lowest speed (4x). The burning stops at 21% and hangs or gives an error message "Burning unsuccessfull". I get the same result with Blu-ray disc. Produce to a file just hangs so I have not been able to finalize my project that way either.

Now PowerDirector has started to crash almost everytime I open my project, before I even can try to burn.

I have attached a Dxdiag file I created earlier today. Please let me know if anything else is needed.

Help is needed and much appreciated, thank you!

Andreas,

Tony pointed you at a great thread for information. I have reread it many times myself just to absorb its knowledge. It humbles me to know how much some of the members know about burning discs. I don't Burn many at all.

You have a GREAT camera..I have the Sony SR-12 and I Love it. Good Luck and I hope you have a positive outcome.

Your video drivers look outdated. Also, are you using the CUDA software and turning on the hardware acceleration? Win8 64-bit Pro Retail

Good point OTW -

I didn't even notice that.

Mine's a similar system with the same graphics card. Here's an extract from my dxdiag file:

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
Display Memory: 1260 MB
Dedicated Memory: 1773 MB
Shared Memory: 3582 MB
blah blah blah...
Driver Name: nvd3dumx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvwgf2umx.dll,nvd3dum,nvwgf2um,nvwgf2um

Driver File Version: 8.15.0011.8627 (English)

If you go to http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us and choose Option 2, Nvidia will find the latest driver for your card.

Cheers - Tony

Nvidia has new drivers (yours appear to be from around JUNE, correct?) for the GeForce GTX 260 that are targeted directly at HD Content:

Driver File Version: 8.17.0011.9562 (English)
Driver Date/Size: 11/20/2009

Fred -

Thank you for pointing that out.

That's odd. Before submitting that post, I thought I'd just check to make sure mine was up-to-date... I went to Control Panel > Device Manager > Display adapters > Nvidia GeForce GTX260 > Properties > Driver > Update Driver (as you do) and it proudly told me, "The best driver for your device is already installed". Hmm.

When I read your post, I tried it again with the same result... so I tried Option 2 on the Nvidia site. It told me it couldn't analyse my system completely... tried Option 1 and found the 8.17.11.9562 version, which is now installed.

Maybe I should have gone through the Nvidia Control Panel, since my Device Driver is apparently just too easily pleased.

Cheers - Tony

No problem. I rarely use the automated check, but I do wait for the WHQL Certified versions, usually. Here are the items new to this release of the drivers
:
New in Version 195.62

* Adds GPU-acceleration for smoother online HD videos with the new Adobe Flash 10.1 beta. Learn more here.
* Adds support for GeForce GT 240.
* Adds support for OpenCL 1.0 (Open Computing Language) for all GeForce 8-series and later GPUs.
* Adds support for CUDA Toolkit 3.0 features and performance enhancements. See CUDA Zone for more details.
* Adds SLI and multi-GPU support for many top new gaming titles including Borderlands, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, FIFA Soccer 10, and more.
* Includes numerous bug fixes including improved performance for Need for Speed: Shift. Refer to the release notes on the documentation tab for information about the key bug fixes in this release.
* Users without US English operating systems can select their language and download the International driver here.

Thanks guys for all suggestions to solve my problems. I have tried to Produce a H-264 file according to the instructions in this thread, http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/8397.page

However, that gives me another problem since PD says that my system is out of memory. But I have 4GB RAM and 170 GB on my HDD so that should be a problem, right? Any suggestions to solve that issue would be appreciated.

I have been able to Produce a DVD HQ file but the quality is of course not even close to H.264 :

At this moment I will try five things:

1. Delete the temp files according to Cyberlink tech support.
2. Update the drivers of my graphic card
3. Try to burn to a folder without a menu
4. Try to Produce a file (H.264) after updating my drivers.
5. Install a new eSATA RAID 0 1TB harddrive.

I will also wait to see if anyone has a suggestion how to solve the "Out of memory" issue, thank you.

After this I will give you all an update how things work out.

Andreas,
Please attach two images to your next post:
1. A screen shot of the Edit user interface with your project content insitu.
2. A screen shot of the error message*

Please note the maximum number of files which can be attached is 3 and they must not be greater than 100kb each.

*I think you have a "bug" error which i've reported. Simple test for you to check.
a) Place the nature.mpg into the video timeline.
b) Next, drag a black colour board at the beginning of the video track
c) Drag the Fade transition between the two.
Note the order of the actions.
d) Now go to Create Disc and use all default menus and settings and burn.
e) Does the error message show?

The workaround is to Produce the project and then bring it back in to Create a disc.

Dafydd,

I have some trouble getting the images size under 100kb each. I will try to sort that out but this is my current status.

1. I have managed to Produce a DVD SP of my project.
2. After that I have tried to Produce a H.264 file but after just 1% I get the same error message, "System out of memory".

I have also tried with nature.mpg according to your instructions but than I got a new error message; "MotionmenuGenerator App stopped working", (got this twice). My setting was to burn to a folder.

Nothing seems to work and I´m starting to think this is impossible to fix. As I mentioned before I have also updated my graphic card drivers, installed a new eSATA RAID0 harddrive and deleted the temp files in temp folders according to Cyberlink tech support.
I think this is very sad. PD8 looked like a good programme, the editing with AVCHD on the timeline went fine. But whats the use if it is impossible to finalize my project!?

I have contacted Cyberlink tech support again, regarding the "System out of memory" error since nothing I have tried has solved my problems.

If anyone here in the forum have any additional suggestions, please let me know. I have not given up yet; but

If I can´t find any solution soon I guess I need to try another software like, Magix Movie Edit Pro or Corel VideoStudio.
