Samsung Gear ActionDirector Stitching Does Not Work For 360 Video

I can't find CyberLink forum support for Gear 360 ActionDirector. I hope it's okay to post this here.

Using Samsung Gear ActionDirector Version 1.0.0.2423, all I ever get when I attempt to stitch 360 videos is a black backgound and two intersecting lines with a blob or pixelated garbage in the middle. Sometimes the lanes are wavy (like a sine wave) and other times they are like a perpendicular X and Y graph. There's never a usable image though. Only pixelated noise and sometimes a blob.

This problem has been discussed all over the Internet, but there are no real answers anywhere. I've got the latest version of the software and the latest update patch (as of October 2017). Can anyone help explain what the problem is and what the solution is?

Hi microname,

The videos you are going to stitch come from the 360°-Samsung camera or from another camera?

The videos are shot with a second-generation Samsung 360 camera, and I know the videos are shot correctly in a valid format because they are playable. However, they are in the unstiched "two large globes on a black background" format.

For my Samsung Gear 360 (2016) Camera, I use the "ActionDirector OEM 2.0.1807.0".

I think, that ist for the Samsung Gear 360 (2017), but it also works for the older model.

Have your serial number at hand.

Didn't you ask this in a different thread? Did you read my answer there?

Have you used the Action Director that came with the camcorder. There should be a link to download it. I have the early Gear 360. My friend has a new one and she was able to do the stitching with the new download.

I can't try because of my older camcorder.

Try copying the files from the menory card to your computer and then stitching from there. Add the files to Action Director. You should see the two globes. Undewr the preview, there is a 360 icon. Click on that. You should be able to do any editing. When you are finished, outpur the file. When the program does that, it will do the stitching. .

Now that's interesting. I hadn't heard or seen of that version of ActionDirector ("ActionDirector OEM 2.0.1807.0"). Any idea where I can find a download to try that version?

stevek, version 2.0.1807.0 of CyberLink's ActionDirector is not on the Samsung website. I appreciate your replies and enthusiasm, but you've already indicated that you can't solve this problem. That's why I'm seeking input from other members. Cheers.

Hi micromano,

If you have Gear 360 (2017), visit this: http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/SM-R210NZWABTU/

You should click "Manual download" and "see more" under downloads.

If you are on Samsung website, just tip "gear 360" in the search bar. You will find all related products.

micromano -- I never said that there was a version of CYBERLINK'S ACTION DIRECTOR on that site. I said there was a standalone version for the 2017 model camcera. I could say more here but I won't. sealed .

I now also have an issue with my SM-C200 Gear 360 camera and ActionDirector software unable to convirt video images into 360 VR video.

While in the ActionDirector software is shows the clips as a 360 VR video when it is published it only converts as a panoramic video. I have tried ALL combinations I can work out but still no change.

Past videos have been converted to 360 VR video with minimal fuss but it has been 30+ days since I did a conversion.

Has there been a change to some software or process that has caused this? I have updated all software on both camera and laptop while trying to sort a solution in the past 5 hours.

Is there a basic step I am failing to follow even after comlpeting the tutorials, step by step, several times in the past 5 hours?

Right now I see my Gear 360 VR as a very expensive paper weight and lousy action cam.

Help would be appreciated

Currently replacing my ActionDirector software (was the January release but showed as current) with most recent release on the Samsung site.... Will update if that fixes issue

Did you install the Windows 10 Fall Update? It has caused problems for some.

I just loaded a 360video into the program and it played and converted OK. When yiou load the file from the camcorder into the program, did you preview the 360 by selecting the 360 icon below the preview screen? .

the clips stitch together fine and are previewable in teh 360 mode. Its when it gets produced that it seems to loose it's 360 VR

I have just removed the Jan GEAR 360 software and replaced it with the October software.... maybe that might help?

What are you using to watch the 360 video after producing it? .

I can confirm what SteveK said. I downloaded version 1.0.0.2423 accidentally, which, from what I understand is for the old version camera (2016) and got the same result as micromano. I downloaded a later version from the Samsung Website for the 2017 camera, version 2.0.1619.0 and all works fine now.

The version that Hicham linked to looks like even newer than my version.

I just installed the software from October, the 2423 Patch and still have this issue.

I have a Windows 10 PC that is up to date.

I tried Samsung. Their support was completely useless.

Anything else to try before giving up?

Version 1.0.0.2423 did not work for me either. I downloaded a later version from the Samsung Website for the 2017 camera, version 2.0.1619.0 and all works fine now. I will try to find the link. Also, I do not have Windows 10, so YMMV.

Ok try this link
https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00066650/

Scroll down just a little to where it says

"Download Gear 360 ActionDirector for PC or Mac"

Click on PC. That should give you access to the latest version, which appears later than the version I have (for the 2017 camera).

Thank you!!! I want to blast this across the Internet everywhere! The 2017 Camera or Windows 10 requires the 2.0 version of the ActionDirector. It is NOT clear at alll that this torn up stitching file is the side effect.

Off to do some editing.

THANK YOU!!!!

I have exactly the same problem that it saves to panorama when seen on Facebook. I followed the link shown above to get a newer version of actiondirector but that link provided an older version. I had 2.0.2112.0 but that link provides 2.0.1619.0, so this was not an issue of having an out-of-date version.

I have tested both versions and tried both H.264 AVC and H.265 formats and neither work. All I am doing is cropping the start and end of the Gear 360 video and, having been through the options, I am clearly using the Gear 360 settings, but all combinations deliver a flattened panorama view on facebook.

I'm also using Windows 10

Any ideas?
