Altering DVD background image/video = crash!

The title says it all.

Everytime, every menu I choose, try to alter the background image of the Disc menu and BAM, crash. I either get a message PD stopped working, or the program itself just vanishes instantly. Could a few people try it to verify if it's common or isolated to me?

Thanks,

Hmm, thank you, and it seems to be affecting PD14 as well, so I have an issue, I bet related to that damn W10 jammed down our throats, now the Anniversary Edition. But, I suppose it could be anything. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Tonight I am CCleaning and Defraggling, and will approach this tomorrow. I was hoping some smarty would tell me, oh, it's this, or that, update c++redistributable, or something. Oh well, my years of PD have been mostly without issue, and those few were mostly self-inflicted, so I'll see if I can come up with a fix or workaround.

My maintenance did not work, so I uninstalled PD15 Live, re-installed, now it will not even open the DISC CREATION module. Just sits there, laughing at me. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

That's a bummmer. FYI. I'm using a full download version not Live of PD 15. Win 10, i7

The DC module finally opened, and I CAN burn a disc (iso test), but I cannot alter the background. And, just to add to the mix, nearly every one of my downloaded menus has the background gonzo, they come up black, just the buttons appear, so now I have to delete every one and start over. No doubt the worst screwed up issue I have faced since PD5.

I seem to be having a little more progress now with this surprisingly FAST answer from SUPPORT...

1) Ensure to log-in as an administrator.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows7/How-do-I-log-on-as-an-administrator 2) Ensure version of CyberLink PowerDirector is up-to-date.http://www.cyberlink.com/support/powerdirector-ultra/patches_en_US.html 3) Ensure to update VGA/Sound card driver to latest.AMD: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx NVIDIA: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx Intel: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx 4) Manual delete the temp files from Preference.Open PowerDirector--> Edit--> Preferences--> General--> Manually delete.5) Disable tracks that are currently not in use.6) Run the application while no other applications are running.

The drivers seem to have done the trick, and I cannot use a downloaded menu that is missing it's background. So...I will continue to delete ALL DOWNLOADED menus and start from scratch. A bit of a tedious task, but what's a "fanboy" to do but meet the challenge! HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

The module has improved, somewhat, but still getting some crashes and instant vanishing of program. I did manage to alter a single menu background amidst the continued fails. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

I have now confirmed whatever it is affects PD 13, 14, and 15, so I suspect it is internal, not necessarily Cyberlink's fault. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

It seems the only issue is the Menu Designer, specific to the background. I am so busy updating websites and starting a newone, plus full-time work, I barely have time to test. And, after Support got back to me in less than a day the first time, I am now awaiting a response after proving them with a new dxdiag (faults at the bottom), and event logs, many !!!error/faults within. It seems I have a dynamic library issue which may call for a re-install of W10, yuckers. However, I have deleted temp files, run a chkdsk repair, and shut off proxy files, and have actually managed to alter a menu. YAY me! Not sure which of those things have helped "fix" the issue, but if it crashes less and I can manage a menu alteration, great. I actually expect more crashes, I will update as things go along. Still love this software, and this forum. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

If it's a system dll it might be worth running sfc in a command prompt first before re-installing Windows ( Windows Key + X, choose "Command Prompt(Admin)" then type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes of course ). Sorry if I'm 'teaching Grandma to suck eggs 'smile

Man oh man. I have tried scannow, chkdsk, memory test, created a new administrator account, deleted temps umpteen times, disabled UAC, rolled back Nvidia driver to a year ago, the ntdll.dll (if Support is correct) is just ruining my days. Everything else seems to work fine, just cannot alter (99% fail) menu background in PD13,14,15. As far as my Grandmother sucking eggs, those are ugly rumours started back in the 50's when my nana dated Seargent Sanders (before his promotion to Colonel)...I can't even type that with a straight face... Quote smile - There are a few suggestions here . The thread mentions among other things, trying safe mode and re-registering the dll which are worth a try Barry. The mention of nvidia driver updates is interesting in this context.

This is not really a tech forum, so if the Mods want us to stop this thread, please let me know, in the meantime...SAFE mode allowed me to alter the menu, no problems, now I am not sure how to proceed. I cannot work in SAFE mode forever. How do I load services/drivers one by one till I get the crash?
