3D Outer Space Slideshow modify hack

Hey fellow members,

I was hoping to use the 3D Outer Space Slideshow in a project that is NOT OUTER SPACE RELATED. The template allows for the changing of the background image, but what I cannot seem to do is get rid of those idiotic meteors that are animated in the template. It's one of those silly things CL does that makes me crazy. A lovely fun to use template DESTROYED by those stoopid meteors. I cannot have a tranquil forest background, or a party scene, with meteors flying around. I have been searching for the folder containing the 3D-OS slideshow to no avail. So...can anybody find it, and can those meteors be removed/altered?

replicate the slideshow and rename.

rename the internal file name for the slideshow in the xml

replace the images/ either with actual images or a transparent png

edit the xml or name the files as per those being replaced.

something like that.

See image for "InnerSpace"

I can't even find the folder. How can I proceed to screw this up if I can't find the folder!😖 HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

and put the new one here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cyberlink\templates\PowerDirector Content Pack Premium 1\Slideshow

Put your 3D created slideshows here as well. They'll display as Unknown.

OK?

I was looking at your posted pic and wondering what the heck all those different items were. When you mean 3D created slideshows, do you imply that I can Modify a show template, and by placing the new version in a particular folder it will display as a new template? If so, does that only work for the 3D Outer Space template? Honestly, these slideshows are among my favorite qwik edits but a few a sooo limited to certain subject matter to be mostly useless. The "hack" for the 3D golden arches enables it to be used in many more scenarios, those stuffy snobby frames are only good for some productions. I need to find a free xml editor now, I have never even attempted to alter one. Rainy day project, here I come!!! HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

xml to rename internally is: SlideShowStyle.xml
Folder to rename is OuterSpace
Files to substitute are M01 to M07.png
Background can be permanently substituted.

Well done Dafydd B. I was preparing an answer but you beat me to it. Make a backup copy of the OuterSpace folder. Those jpg can be replaced. Those png can be opened in Gimp/Select All/Edit/Cut/Export As the same filename. This means all the png will be transparent minus the meteors and flame.

Yes Barry, all those YOU created years ago can be displayed as I've done from the location/local address I gave you. Remember to rename the internal data in the xml (do NOT change the xml file name) and the folder so there wont be a conflict of names and the new ones YOU created will display as are the ones in my Slideshow.
I did this hack quite some time ago and displayed my slideshow selection - similar to the image I have shown here and no-one picked up on it.
Let me know if you need help... just as I once created the installer exe all those years ago ha ha.

All set for now (third attempt to post here), I will live with the 1 modified OuterSpace template because the others are so easy to alter. Maybe later today I'll try to get the original and the modded to show up at the same time, but I will NEVER use the meteors so...not sure it's worth it. However putting in a few baseballs, or balloons, or something else with a wide array of uses, that might be cool. At least I now have one more template I can use. Thank you. Dafydd B – Barry’s initial post got me working on that Outer Space slideshow template. All accomplished and I had two Outer Space slideshow templates showing. I changed that last xml file value from Outer Space to Outer Space1 and it shows up as unknown as in your screenshot. Good work. sealed

Hi Barry and tomasc,

Well done tomasc for having a go.

Barry, I've attached an image with some names you "might" recognise. Remember it is the SlideShowStyle.xml file you open and edit, change the name to the new slideshow folder's name.

Have fun - it's an easy hack for all members to carry out.

I tried to have a go at this, but encountered problems I hope you can help me with.

I copied the "Outer Space" folder from the "essential" to the "premium" as was my understanding from above posts.

I changed the name of the copied folder to "Outer Space 1"

In the Outer Space 1 folder, I edited (in Word) the SlideShowTheme.xml and changed the name to Outer Space 1. I did not change the name of the .xml file.

I then edited Outer Space 1 as I wanted.

Now, in PD, I have two slideshow templates with unchanged names ie "Outer Space". Both of which, strangely, play the edited version.

Am I missing something basic, as I dont seem to be able to change the name of the template even?

Why have I now got two templates both called "Outer Space"?

Thanks

Robert

It sound like that you did everything right. It might be just an extra space somewhere or that I used Notepad instead of Word. Found that it is far easier to copy those files to a created root temp folder and do your pic modification or changes because of windows permissions.

Attached are files that may help others who wish to modify the OuterSpace SS template.

  1. OuterSpace1 is the file explorer view of what is changed. Note the dates. SlideShowStyle.xml is the one to modify not ‘Theme’.

  2. SS Creator show that the new SS template is name Unknown. You have to modify the icon.jpg file with your image editor to put a name in it like in Daffyd B’s screenshot.

  3. The changed SlideShowStyle.xml is attached here as a zip file. The change in this file correctly display the SS template as Unknown instead of having two OuterSpace SS templates.

What probably happened in Robert's case is that the xml file did not get changed because of windows permission. I had to do it in a root temp folder and then copy it over.

Hi tomasc

That's great - Thank you.

I think it was your zip file that put matters right, I'm not absolutely sure, but suddenly the "unknown" template appeared.

Many thanks

Robert

PS I did mean "style" and not "theme". I was writing from memory. Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

Thanks all

I'm still having trouble editing the "icon" file. I have tried loading into Photoshop, adding text, and then saving. When I open SS editor the same unedited icon is there. The same thing happens in Paint.net.

Is there something else I should be doing?

Thanks

It has been a while since I used Photoshop. I believe the newer versions save in the psd format by default. Export As… may be required to produce a jpg. Open that icon.jpg again and you probably find it unchanged as it did not overwrite it because of windows permission.

Try this: Copy this and any file you want modified to a created c:\temp folder. Make your changes to all jpg and png files here. After you are finished Save or Export As.. to this same c:\temp folder to overwrite the originals with the selected jpg or png extensions.

Open the c:\temp\icon.jpg and you should find that it is changed to your liking. Copy it to the Slideshow\OuterSpace1 folder. You might want to delete the original icon.jpg in the original folder first.

Let us know if this helps.

Add Barry's 3D's, he made some great little changes and they will display the same "Unknown". If you amend the icon image by adding a text ID (a name) in an image editor, you'll find it a lot easier to pick out the Slideshow.

Thanks tomasc for stepping in and guiding others.

I tend not to present hacks or workarounds unless as here, I answered an editor... heck I like to keep my own thunder to myself
