I'm having some trouble with the ending effect overriding the starting effect. I've followed everything to a T on tutorial videos and checked the downloaded user manual. Is it just bad software? Intel i7-2670QM, 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT, 500GB 840EVO SSD, 8GB DDR3, Samsung S34E790C

This is GREAT software, and welcome to the forum.
Can you attach a screenshot of your timeline?
The transitions actually have 3 variations each, with clearly different outcomes.

Hi Garrett -

Most of the motion effects for text work independently... but NOT the scroll effects.

If you use scroll up, down, left or right - it will (by default) apply it to the start & end effects.

If it's scroll you're using, try one of the slide transitions instead.

I agree with the Crab guy - GREAT software!

Cheers - Tony

Thanks for the support fellas. Here's two screenshots of the starting and ending effect. When I select the effect for the starting effect everything works as it should, but when I select the effect for the ending effect it cancels the starting effect and starts at the end.
Starts here:

Sorry Garrett -

I can't replicate that on PD10 here.

Using the default 3D title, I set the starting effect to 3D Flocking I (as you did) then set & reset the ending effect to randomly chosen effects...

At no time did the choice of ending effect have any impact on the starting effect, which stayed consistently set to 3D Flocking I.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying.

Cheers - Tony

Hi Garrett,

I'm just kind of repeating ynotfish here. But in your Title Designer screen shot, I notice that your scrubber line (just above the transport controls.) is blank with no duration adjustment options. That may be why you’re having text effect issues and overlapping behavior, because no effect parameters are set.
Has your scrubber line always been this way, without any available adjustments?

Your scrubber line should look like this.

Jolly good observation Cranston -

That must be the problem!

When a title is selected in Title Designer, as in Garrett's screenshots, the effect duration slider should be available.

Garrett - has this only happened recently?

Cheers - Tony

The scrubber line looks like that until I hit play(which is how I took the screenshot). Still having the issue. Played around with everything but no matter what if I select a ending effect it will cancel out the starting effect. I'll try to record a video and upload it to YouTube that way I can show y'all exactly whats going on.

This is my first time using the Text Effect.

My mistake Tony. I didn’t jolly well fully observe that the screen cap was of a playback.
Yes, the parameter / duration adjustments only appear with the Text highlighted for modification, so my reply about the blank line is not applicable to your issue Garrett.

But yes, an upload to YT showing your settings and issue, might give some clues for members looking in.

Ah Garrett -

Thanks for the video capture. Now I understand.

When you apply an ending effect, Title Designer plays the starting effect at the end. EEK!

What should be happening is attached.

I don't think there's anything for it but a complete uninstall & re-install of PD10 and the 2 Contents packs.

Cheers - Tony

Hi Garret (and Tony),

Being a glutton for punishment, I’m going to attempt another stab at a possible solution to your text effect issue. But again I may be way off.
Have you ever applied any of the available PD10 update patches?

A 3D Like Text effect issue was reported as occurring with the first two PD10 builds. It appears to be the same or at least similar to the issue that you are having. And it was cured by installing the1129a update patch.
Here is a forum thread that first reported it back in October 2011, and led to CL resolving the issue.
https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/19480.page
The first post has a short Youtube video example in which the Text Effects issue seems the same as yours.

If you haven’t ever done so, I think you may need to update your PD10 to the latest available patch. Or at the very least, update to patch 1129a, which is available here.
http://www.cyberlink.com/support/powerdirector-ultra/patches_en_US.html

You can check your build number by opening your PD10, and clicking on PowerDirector in the upper right hand corner of your screen. If your build number is lower than 1129a, then perhaps it's time to update and that may solve your issue.

Hi,
This may be wrong assumption but I just watched the You tube video, it seems to me that the 'frame marker' should be at the last frame(in transition) to apply the second transition?!..no other wise with 'scrubber' at the position 1 the effect is being replaced there not at the end.

I definitely need to update as I am on version 1012. Do I need to download each update to get to the most recent or can I just download the most recent update? Hopefully by doing the update I won't have to uninstall and re install. Intel i7-2670QM, 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT, 500GB 840EVO SSD, 8GB DDR3, Samsung S34E790C

Hi Garrett,

Yeah, if you’re using Build 1012, I think that applying the update will cure your issue with the 3D Like text template “effects” glitch, just as it did for everyone else.

You should only need to download/apply the latest available update patch, as the update patches are “generally”* accumulative. Meaning all recent updates are added to the next new update package releases.
(*NOTE: I put “generally” in quotation marks, as there have been at least one exception in the past)

So simply updating to latest update available, should contain all the previous fixes. But 1129a is the update that specifically contains a fix for what appears to be your issue.
You can confirm that by hovering your mouse over the “i” next to an update patch, for a list of issues addressed in any particular update. I have always had my PD closed when downloading / applying an update patch.

And no, there should be no need to do a complete re-install. Just download / apply the update by following the prompts, and you should be all set.
It’s always worked fine for me that way, since PD version 4 (?).
I also generally reboot my computer after a successful PD update install, just to be sure.

And you might also want to consider creating a Windows Restore Point as a fall back, before you apply an update, just in case some download/internet/browser issue or glitch might occur.

Good luck.

That trouble was with the 1129. I'm in the process of downloading the 2231 right now and it seems to be doing fine. Intel i7-2670QM, 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT, 500GB 840EVO SSD, 8GB DDR3, Samsung S34E790C
