Odd additions on disc

Interesting this one! From a downloaded .avi file in full cinemascope (i.e. it's in 4:3 with thick BLACK bands top & bottom) when burnt to disc it has pulsation PURPLE bands at top and bottom beyond the balck ones when viewed on a TV. If I blow it up to fill the screen, the purple does dissapear off screen, but there is still a slight pulsing on screen. Any suggestions as to cause? Seeking wisdom - finding fluff - but wise fluff!

I have responded to another posting which had similar issues. After suggesting an update of the PD version being used I didn't get a response.
