I have the exact same problem.

Prevously with PowerDVD 11, I could throw any video file at it and view without issue. It was my go-to player for files that wouldn't work in other players.

PowerDVD 12 is the opposite, none of the DIVX or Xvid files that worked in 11 will play in version 12. MKV files work fine though. As with the screenshots uploaded by the OP, the length of the video file is shown to the right of the progress bar, pressing pause/play changes the appearance of the play-button, but the screen remains black, no audio, and the status bar doesn't progress.

I tried it with the trial version too and got the same thing. i do hope there's a workaround for this if this will be an issue with the version.

chaznet is right .
some files that previously played fine in version 11 don't work in version 12.
I am sure that this problem will be solved soon.

Hi,

I can see this issue only on systems with old VGA drivers installed. Please post your DXDIAG lo file when facing this issue.

thanks

How are we defining 'old vga drivers'...? I have an Asus 17" gaming laptop with a blueray DVD drive. It came with some elaborate ATI graphics card that I nowhere near take advantage of.

Probably, I can give a solution of this problem.I have Power DVD 12 Ultra on my desktop and notebook. My notebook's power dvd 12 working perfect without any problem, but on my desktop I cannot play divx and avi files. I did try investigate why? I found my desktop have DiviX Plus v.8 software, but my notebook doesn"t. I uninstalled DiviX 8 Plus software from my desktop and....
Power DVD 12 Ultra began to work on my desktop perfect. Right now I can play any AVI and DiviX files on my desktop by using Power dvd12. I will be glad if it will help somebody else.

Hi
I also had DivX 8 installed and have since uninstalled which now allows PowerDVd 12 to play avi/xvid/divx files.
However the divx watermark appears at the start of the movie.
I cannot remove this watermark and i have no divx stuff installed at all.
The problem is not critical but annoying.
Thanks

Hi,
we can not reproduce the issue on any platform.
PowerDVD 12 and installed DivX 8 do not show this issue here.

Can you please help to provide more info?
- which additional Codec Packs are installed?

We are also looking for users able to provide Remote login to check the issue.

I can't play .AVI's either! I am beginning to regret spending so much money on Cyberlink software! When you pay so much for a player it should just work. This is a disgrace and before anyone asks me to update my drivers - I have! Try uninstalling DivX, seems to fix things -- at least it did for many of us here. Definitely not something we should have to do, especially considering the cost of the Power DVD. Oddly enough, DivX files play fine after uninstalling it, just not in the DivX player...
