I agree..I had splashlite installed on VISTA, too and no thumbnails.
Windows 7 was a fairly painless upgrade.

My only problem is I want to upgrade to a 64 bit version of Windows 7, which means a clean install and re-installing all of my programs.

Yeah;
Gotta love Microsoft...after all this time, they still can't figure out how to help the users move to a new version without a root canal. Luckily, I was already in Vista 64bit
