Maybe this will help: When you're done with your editing and want to produce a finished video, go to the
Produce tab (or
Create Disc if you want to make a DVD or Blu-Ray) and tell PD what kind of output you want.
In your case, you'd choose
H.264 AVC and then
MP4 directly underneath that. Then choose the Profile name/Quality you want, like
MPEG-4 1920x1080/30p (16 Mbps), then click on
Start. When PD finishes producing the video, you're done. You can upload to YouTube or do whatever you want with the finished video. Go home. Go to work. Go to bed. You don't have to do anything else.
If you want to
archive your project so that at some point in the future you can re-open it and make some changes with all the relevant files accessible, you can use the
Pack Project Materials... option to save the project, all original files and all related effects to a folder on an internal or external drive, or use the
Pack Project Materials and Upload to CL Cloud... to save everything to the cloud.
If you're always going to keep the files on your computer or if you're never going to use them again, there's no need to do any project packing. It's a completely optional step. If you need to free up disk space or you're worried about losing the clips in a crash, then packing the project and saving it to an external drive or to the cloud is a simple way of preserving everything.
I hope this all makes sense!
