Hi Steve -

I don't mind eating my words a bit, in the interests of trying to track down a problem. It's not just about bitrate.

After a few attempts, I downloaded your P1050561.MOV file & found it was shot at 24fps. I then customised a profile to match your original as closely as I could. The details of the profile are attached.

So - I produced your clip to 1920x1080 MOV 23.976fps @ 50MBps & - guess what - it plays completely smoothly in PDR13 laughing

Here are the side-by-side MediaInfo reports:

Someone smarter 'n me might be able to provide some further clues about that. You'll see that PDR produced the clip using the Main@L4.1 profile, but I believe that only affects the maximum allowable bitrate.

You can download the produced file here (if you wish) to see whether it plays smoothly in your PDR 13.

"disappointed that the Product won't handle .mov files with a bitrate over 20" - not so at all.

Cheers - Tony

laughing Apparently the forum reply editor thinks Main@L4.1 is an email address.

I checked your download and I again appreciate your efforts... ynotfish, you are awesome! What speed/power CPU do you have? I might be back to the i5 or graphic card or not being enough?????

So if not bitrate, I wonder what it does not like about the files from the GH3? I will shoot a little test video today at different fps.... see if that makes a difference (although I really like 24fps for quality)... all of you know more about the production side of video than I (learning fast). Thoughts? Hammerhouse

I don't understand why this is not a bitrate problem because when the GH3 is shooting 24p cinema mode the bitrate is a whopping 200m. That is twice the bitrate my GH4 uses on 4K.

With 100m I cant get PD to work properly so how can it succeed with 200m.

Just my thoughts Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

Thanks Shadowman,
Why is my bitrate so high for 1920x1080?

If you shoot 24p cinema mode at 1920x1080 on the GH4, what is the bitrate? Should be the same as mine, the cameras are virtually identical except for 4K

How can I tell what the bitrate is? Again, new to this....

Hi Hammerhouse1

I must admit that I do not have a GH3, but I have a GH2 and a GH4.

The manual reads as follows:

24hz (cinema) 1920 x 1080 24.00p 200Mbps. I think this would only apply if you have the highest quality setting applied. The GH3 may be quite different Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

I don't own any Panasonic camera, but The Shadowman is absolutely right. The GH4 can shoot MOV (24p) @ 200MBps. The GH3 manual - http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMCGH3_ADV.PDF Page 178 has the VBR settings for each format. I'm guessing the "upped" bitrate came along with the GH4's launch into 4K.

Hammerhouse1's posted sample file is ~50MBps - that's what I was working off.

Quote: I don't understand why this is not a bitrate problem

I came to the conclusion that "it wasn't just about bitrate" when the PDR produced file @ ~50MBps played back smoothly in PDR13, where the original had stuttered... so there's some other factor at play.

So I tried a few additional videos and shot a few varying the settings. What I have concluded is on a long clip, one that was almost 8 minutes shot at 24 fps 1920x1080, it stalls out after about 28 seconds.... short clips, same setting work at that setting. clips under 30 seconds or so will play fine once fully loaded into PD3.....

So now I think maybe it is Ram memory... I have 8GB, but my computer is running more stuff at start up than it should... will clean it up a bit, and will continue to play with it.... thanks all for your help! Hammerhouse
