GOP=Group Of Pictures.

It is a term used to describe how the images are assembled.

Thank you guys so much!
I've been wrestling with this one for weeks. Mainly when I am using zoom followed by a fade transition. Problem solved.
Once again thanks.

Hi Guys - Valuable tips but not sure I fully understand. Might be slightly off-topic but please bear with me.

I am producing DVD's and Blu-Ray DVD's. My source is 1920x1080 50p AVCHD and MP4 clips and my pics are edited in Photo Director 6 and then sent to PD13 where I convert them to SlideShows with motion on the timeline.

I only use PRODUCE to create an AVC H264 Mpeg4 1920x1080/25p. I put the MP4 file on a USB Stick to view on my HD TV to look at overall quality before I create DVDs with Menus. So I jump straight from EDIT to CREATE DISC to make DVDs. We are on PAL so 25fps and 50fps.

My BluRay settings are: 16:9, H.264, HD 1920x1080/50i

My DVD settings are: 16:9 MPEG-2, HQ-Best Quality

I don't think I understand how the PRODUCE function affects CREATE DISC.

In this thread:

Jeff says:

"I follow these basic steps: 1) Always produce to your source video footage format

2) If (1) is not possible, then produce to highest end product target you envision. So if one thinks you might make a couple of BD's as well as DVD's, then always produce to the BD spec of your desire (H.264 1920x1080/60i 24Mbps) works great for me as that's most of my source footage is as well. "

Tony:

"Jeff's suggested workflow is best. Render everything to MPEG-2 DVD HQ because that's how it will end up on the DVD."

"When the final DVD is burnt, it'll be MPEG-2 740x480 @ ~8MBps."

I have been disappointed with the normal DVD quality. Does this mean that if I PRODUCE (render) a mpeg file using MPEG-2, DVD HQ 720x576/50i, 8Mbps my DVD quality will be better than jumping straight to CREATE DISC? If so how do I add Menus? Should I open a new project, go to CREATE DISC, Content, and then add my 720x576 mpeg file? Will I get better results? I can add a title but can only write my 2D DVD in "Best Quality" - or does it mean that if I write the Mpg2 file directly to a DVD that it will give me a playable DVD in higher quality without the Menu? Why don't we have options other than "Best Quality" if it's possible to create DVDs in various qualities?

According to Wiki

"The following formats are allowed for H.262/MPEG-2 Part 2 video:

At a display rate of 25 frames per second, interlaced (commonly used in regions with 50 Hz image scanning frequency)(PAL):

720x576 pixels (same resolution as D-1)

704x576 pixels352x576 pixels (same as the China Video Disc standard)

352x288 pixels

Widescreen video is supported only in D-1 resolutions."

If I have just confused myself please tell me I need to find a new hobby!

I do appreciate the time taken on the forum by by experienced users to help us Newbies.smile

This post raises some interesting issues for people like myself who are not only new to PD13 but, are absolutely new to video editing in any program.
For some time now I've been simply going straight to Create DVD and burning a 2D DVD. I have not the least idea what format I'm using nor if I should use a different one.
I have pondered the Produce option but, having read all I can find in the PD User's Guide. (Which I have downloaded and read from cover to cover, an amazing admission from one who never reads manuals) I cannot see exactly why I need to produce? To date my videos have been simple editing of old videos and burning DVDs to play in a standard player to TV.
I did once try rendering a whole series of clips on the timeline, but, could not for the life of me see any difference when played back.
Please, Is there anyone who is prepared to explain the different formats, which is the best to use and just exactly what does Produce or Render achieve.
My next project is a very complicated production utilizing a lot of slides with fades, zooms and motion, and large sections of video thrown in for good measure. Plus several chapters and scenes using menus.
I really would appreciate any help.
