Just to put my 2 cents worth in. I am very familiar with other video editing programs that have essentially the same functions as found in Power Director. The one reason that I bought it was because it was touted as the fastest video editing program (64 bit) at a reasonable price. I had a couple of earlier versions of the program that were OK but nothing fantastic.

Since I bought it for speed - and many people do, then getting poor quality would be a very good reason to return it even though I get the speed.

Unlike Garry, I get reasonable quality video and seldom use SVRT.; it is still faster than the 32 bit software that I use . By the way, that also has a fast render function built in and the ability to select to use the video card or the software to render.

Some people buy cars on styling, some on options, and some on speed but they all want quality in every aspect. !

Ease of use is subjective. I have used almost every video editor on the market (free too) and have owned most of them at some point. I downloaded the trial of PD11 first and was impressed with the render speed of the few tests I did. Still took me months to make the decision to purchase. Only after my purchase did I get into the output file details, etc.

I can say one thing: PD11 DOES import WTV files which is a big plus. At the moment, I don't know of any other 'editor' that will. Video Redo opens WTV, but has limited function for the price.

Although I purchased PD11 for fast render, I am planning on purchasing a high end 3D camcorder later this year. So PD11 will probably get more use then. i can only hope that Cyberlink fixes the fast render issues.

The fast render varies with the version of the Graphics Card driver that is installed.

Nvidia and AMD/ATI have both good video drivers that render properly and bad drivers that mess up the Render.

It is the Video Card and Driver that provides Fast Render except for SVRT. SVRT is all Powerdirector.

For SVRT to work, your source video must be in one of the compatible formats. Which can be tested on the View Menu > SVRT Information. Or Press (Alt+S) in the Edit module.

It has to be the CPU and GPU combination that is causing a problem. On my machine, if I produce using 8300 Kbps then I get 8300 Kbps on the actual file, according to MediaInfo, using hardware encoding. I can then take that clip and burn a DVD without recompression. My CPU/GPU combination is one that Cyberlink lists on the Specifications web page.

Hope you weren't analyzing the .VOB file that contains the menu, because that is always going to have a low bitrate. Gateway DX4380, AMD A8-5500 Quad Core 3.2GHz with ATI Radeon HD 7560D; 16GB RAM; 1 TB SATA 7200 RPM; Windows 8 Pro 64-bit; PDR11, PDVD12.

Xerox & other technically minded colleagues -

I need to be enlightened here, because I think I'm missing something pretty basic.

When I first read GGRussell's post/thread, I wasn't at all surprised. I've seen senior (& respected) contributors to this forum comment unfavouably about the way PD encodes DVDs. I'm not saying I understood it - just accepted that they knew what they were talking about.

So (even though I rarely burn DVDs) I opened a shortened project & produced an MPEG-2 (DVD HQ) file from it. MediaInfo reported a bitrate of 8170 Kbps (maximum 8300Kbps).

I created a folder and checked out the VOB - BR 8155Kbps (max 8300Kbps). Next I burnt a DVD (in PD) for comparison - the VOB bitrates were exactly the same as those reported from the folder.

None of that surprises me, but it makes me unable to follow some of the reasoning in this thread.

Help?

Cheers - Tony

Xerox - my machine is well within the specs with CPU/GPU on the list. I also have the latest GPU drivers.

Perhaps it was because I was down-converting Hidef to standard definition. The original format was .WTV from Windows 8 Media Center. Intel i7 4770k, 16GB, GTX1060 3GB, Two 240GB SSD, 4TB HD, Sony HDR-TD20V 3D camcorder, Sony SLT-A65VK for still images, Windows 10 Pro, 64bit

Quote: Hi GGRussell ,
Please provide a screenshot of your project in the Edit Workspace. See guide, part E & F. I'm interested to see the make up/breakdown of your project contents. I may ask for additional information which I hope you can provide.

If possible please provide a diagnostic file as well, Part A & B in the guide: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/24771.page

Hi GGRussell ,
I know I asked for the above items previously and having them would be useful still. If you could provide a 5 second unedited sample .wtv for members to work with that would be super.
a) your findings would be assessed.
b) we'd all be able to use the same file!
