If I've understood correctly you put two titles side-by-side in the title track with a gap between them. I've tried this in my PD9 and it works fine.

The speed is determined by scrolling through all the text you've entered in the time it takes for the cursor to scrub along the title item. If you double it's length (by, for example, dragging one edge) it will scroll at half the speed and vice versa. Regards,
Mike

No Gap, butt them together. When the first title ends, the second will start with no gap. If the second is a continue of the first, you cannot see the change.

The change in scrolling speed is not linear, you have to experiment to get the speed you want.

You can also put your mouse cursor at the end of the Title clip and drag the length.

You don't have to butt them together. Presuming you wanted a delay between sets of text it's perfectly ok to leave a gap between the title clips.

I thought that's what I said.

Actually Carl I don't understand what you mean by non-linear. As far as I can see it simply scrolls through all the text in a particular title clip in the time it takes for the cursor to pass along the clip. If you double it's length it will take twice as long and the titles will scroll at half the speed.
