problem importing recorded wtv files into PD9. "no rich video information" etc

I am wanting to purchase PD9 build 0.0.2701 and was working successfully with the trial version, importing recorded tv programs that I had successfully recorded on my PC (same machine as I have loaded PD9) editing them & burning them to DVD's.

Now for no reason, that I can think of for I am doing exactly the same, when I go to import further recorded tv programs files into PD9 I get the message:-

"selected file contains no rich video information to display scene information. Do you want to generate it now. It may take a few minutes to detect the scenes of the video."

You click OPEN, which is the only option available and then a message comes up informing you are about to convert the file.

Click o.k. and the:-

WTV Convert Dialog Box appears and tells you that:-
"the file contains multiple video / audio streams so PD9 cannot convert to MPEG2."

All the files that I have recorded have been about 1 hr + long and all successful up until now.

Any help greatly appreciated. Many thanks Mark Lacey. Im using win7 64bit, 6gig ram

Mark

Can you attach a short clip, about 10 seconds would do. __________________________________

Hi Jaime-esque, thanks for responding. I literally cannot import the file at all into the Libaray section of PD9 so could you advise as to how I can obtain and attach a 10 sec clip please? Appreciate your help. Mark

Jaime,
perhaps you have a WTV.
I found one in my computer, it's a sample.

Mark -

I imported the .wtv file Barry mentioned... in C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\Sample Media

At first, I got this...

Then I got the alert you received - clicked "Yes" - & it imported fine.

I've attached it for you to test on your end.

Cheers - Tony

It converts it to an MPEG2 transport stream, rather than your run-of-the-mill MPEG2. Should not be a problem. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Hi Tony, Many thanks for your help.

Downloaded the file and it worked like a charm!

Wondering why then those files I recorded via WMC on win7 from the TV Cable connection to my PC won't convert and appear in the Library of PD9?

Any further thought & suggestions welcomed. Many thanks Mark

Hi Barry, Yes, I found out that the hard way by trying to convert the wtv file to MPEG2. Also PD9, when it works, does it so quickly. Many Thanks Mark

Thanks Barry. I don't seem to have that folder at all. Must be a Windows 7 thing. __________________________________

Either Windows 7, or maybe because I have a TV tuner in my laptop. Probably the latter.
I actually have it copied to my sample folder, along with our old friends, the "aquarium" clip. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Hi Nina,

Many thanks for that. I had seen it and am bugged that that is the route I might have to take. I like the program and it is the only one, apparently, that will take wtv files directly and convert them effortlessly straight into your Libaray. I am sure by converting this and that way you must loose some quality. Thanks Mark

Not that I've ever recorded TV on my PC, but apparently PD has been importing wtv files since (at least) PD7.

Mark - the question remains. What has changed on your PC that has stopped PD importing your recorded files when you've been able to do the same thing previously?

Cheers - Tony

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your continued interest. I sure wish I knew! When I first downloaded PD9 I was having good success as previously described. Doing exactly and using exactly the same settings to record tv via WMC and then trying to import them, again as described previously, I have been getting the mentioned messages. F.Y.I. I have been in touch with C.L.'s Tech Desk but got the run around. I kept receiving the same solution which was to follow through onscreen messages which were not error messages. I never said that they were. I advised them 3 times that in doing as they advise it did not convert or import the wtv file. Their reply was another repeat. I am at a loss as to what to do and have only 2 weeks to purchase and I would really like to but not if I get an intermittent inability to import wtv files. Appreciate your help Tony Thanks Mark

Using the sample landscapes.wtv file I got the same messages, and the first time I selected convert I got a message saying my system did not support .wtv conversion.

2nd time - I first played the file in the conversion window preview player, it played OK and then I could convert and use it in PD.

Now does it each time.

An alternative is to select the .wtv file in windows explorer> right click > convert to .dvr-ms format. This uses the WTVconverter.exe found at C:\Windows\ehome\WTVconverter.exe.

Usage parameters can be found here :
http://www.kaashoek.com/comskip/viewtopic.php?p=3993&sid=04d1eda477c455571a4559e72f124d07#p3993

Unfortunately I haven't any other .wtv files to play with so.....

Cheers
Adrian

According to this http://www.mediacenterblog.net/tips-tricks/how-to-easily-convert-wtv-files-to-dvrms-files-with-windows-7 - you can convert unprotected wtv files (in Win7) to the older format. Oddly, I don't have that right click option on my Win7.

CyberLink's MediaShow Espresso will also import these files for conversion...

Cheers - Tony

Edit - What Adrian said! Geez, I'm slow this morning!

If you are running some versions of ATi graphics, you might be able to use the ATi converter in Catalyst Control Centre to convert to several formats. I don't believe WTVconverter is available for XP.

Cheers

Ok - since Adrian tried it on his computer, and I hadn't by my first post,
I had to try. Open PD9, go right to import the file, asked if convert- "yes" - "ok" -
and no problems occured. Did it again, no problems - played fine in timeline.
