Hi again, again,

I've some WMV HD HQ files (produced from MTS files in PD9).
In Edit mode I drag one video clip to the timeline.
Then use Split and then delete the part I don't want.
In the timeline it looks perfect.
Then click Produce.
In Produce room I choosse the same WMV settings as the original file.

When the new produced file is imported to Edit room it's similar to the original, same size and length.
Shown at the encloced images where you can see all the steps plus an extra image where I have draged the tree trials to the timeline.

I tried at least tree times with the same file, then tried an other file, same result

When I do the same with a MTS file i works ok.

Cheers, Anja

Hi Anja,
Can you replicate the issue on a 10 second file?

If you can please, attach the sample file (10 second clip) you used and we'll see if we can replicate.

Thanks
Dafydd

Hi Dafydd,
thanks for you'll look at it.
I enclose a 7 sec wmv (wmv 9 HD hq) produced from a mts in PD9.

Made split after 3.14 sec and deleted the last part.
Went to Produce room choose wmv 9 HD hq and clicked start.
The new produced video, as the others mentioned yesterday, was exactly the same size and lenght as the original wmv - eg. split-delete had been ignored.

When doing the same with the original mts file it works ok.

Regards,
Anja

Hi Anja,
I have carried out what you've detailed on the wmv you provided.

I have produced a 3.14 second 25fps 1440x1080 wmv video.

I can not replicate your issue.

Perhaps other editors can see what results they can achieve.

Thanks
Dafydd

Hi Anja,

I could not replicate the issue either.

- Placed your 07:07 clip in timeline
- Created Split at 03:15
- Deleted second half
- Produced to WMV HD HQ.

The resulting Produced file, played fine and was exactly 03:15 in length.

Thanks both of you! :

After the test and upload of the trial clip I Restored my PC from a Restore Point one day before I updated the graphic driver first time. Then updated graphic driver again and updated cpu driver.

And now - don't yell at me - after receiving your I tried again split-delete on a wmv IT DON'T WORK at my PC.

Now I'll Uninstall both PD9 M-Expresso and install again.
Also I see that there at updates for PD9 I wonder if they will be of any use for me.
my downloaded version (from 2001 03 1 is:
1_PowerDirector9Ultra_2701_VDE110120-01 and
2_ContentPack_VDE100318-02

cheers from a very tiered Anja

Hi Anja, Dafydd, and Cranston: I have replicated Anja's problem on my computer PD9 Ultra (2702) with the FFDshow codec pack installed. The clip does not shorten. I tried producing with and without hardware acceleration/SVRT enabled. File sizes differed marginally, but MediaInfo reported both files as over seven seconds. Below is the link to my produced file of Anja's project:

Below that is a copy of my PD9 timeline which clearly shows that I split the clip was split at 3 seconds 14 frames.

Don't know what the solution is since I have not processed any HD film in PD9. I am converting SD stuff from Hi8 and VHS.

Just thought that I would pass along that it doesn't work for me either, and I have done a lot of splitting successfully with PD on SD quality .mpeg2.

Have a great day.

-Phil

Anja,

I have also replicated your results. I am running build 2504.

I did 4 tests
1 - Split at 3:14, deleted last half, produced WMV 9 HD HQ, with hardware acceleration
2 - Split at 3:14, deleted last half, produced WMV 9 HD HQ, without hardware acceleration
3 - Split at 3:14, deleted first half, produced WMV 9 HD HQ, with hardware acceleration
4 - Split at 3:14, deleted first half, produced WMV 9 HD HQ, without hardware acceleration

All instances produced the full length video - 7:06

Hei Anja,

I could not replicate.

Split at 3.14,
removed (twice, first produce first half, second time the second half),
produced wmv 9 hd hq

Produced clips came back right.
I'm on 2330.

Just something.

Do we have a difference, 32 bit vs 64 bit?

I am running 32 bit on XP sp3.

Are the ones that cannot replicate all running 64 bit W7?

We should be able to norrow this down as it seems it might be dependent on the environment in which PD9 is running.

Then that would rule out that theory.

It has to be something in the differences in the operating environment, where some can replicate and others cannot.

Hi HalCon,

Just to confirm. I'm running XP Pro 32bit / SP3. And having no issues with getting a correctly produced 3:14 WMV video file when splitting Anja's footage.

This is indeed a strange one. And I hope Anja and all of us get a definite answer as to what the cause may be.

Anja's footage is PAL, so I just clicked yes, when asked to conform to my NTSC setting.
If it's not a 64bit -vs- 32bit issue, could there be an PAL -vs- NTSC issue involved?
No, that can't be right, because Nina couldn't replicate the issue either.
Hmm?

Cranston,

I actually switched to PAL in Preferences before testing.

Strange indeed.

I did my testing using PD9 Ultra x64. Running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I did change to PAL format since PD9 warned me that my current selection was NTSC when I tried to put Anja's video clip on the timeline.

Very strange that some can replicate and some can't. It is a mystery ... for now. I am sure the pros will figure it out.

Have a great day.

Thanks from me too to everyone.

I made a support ticket the other day - telling that my drivers were updated with enclosed DxDiag e.t.c.
Responce today: "update your drivers and send the DxDiag if the problem still exist"
To me it seem to be an auto gegerated answer without anyone reading the message.

Looking forward to see what happens with Dafydd's bug report.

Anja: Sorry you got such a lame response from CL Tech Support. You are NOT alone in that regard!

You are in the right place and folks here will help you as much as they can. Unfortunately, this appears to be a "bug", so the CL programmers will have to work on it and fix it in a future patch. In the interim, if you have access to another computer, you might try installing on that computer to see if the "Split" will work on that computer, since this seems to be a bug that only affects certain setups.

Don't know what the legality is of installing on another computer (Dafydd will know), but from my perspective, only you are using the product and you have paid for it, so it shouldn't matter which computer you choose to use. Some software companies explicitly allow this (as long as not more than one copy is running at any one time). I haven't read the licence agreement for PD9 - legalese makes me numb. Moreover, in your case, a bug has deactivated a very crucial function for you on your computer, through no fault of your own.

Hope that they get your issue, and my SmartSound issue, fixed in the near future. Have a great day.

Regards,
-Phil
