Mildly complex render not utilizing good hardware

I'm messing with about 30 concurrent layers @1080 which is kind of a lot but I have a 12 core processor, Nvidia 3080, 32gb ram, and a 1TB ssd w large paging file...

Still the render for a 4min video is taking 6hrs and when I try editing at this stage, even w reduced preview quality, it's constantly freezing and being very slow.

Usage stats show about 33% gpu load, 5% PC load, and about half ram usage...

I've tried optimizing the program both in preference settings and the render profile. No real changes.

Please help!

Hi,

Have you tried using shadow files for the preview issue, to see if that makes the editing a better experience?

With regards to the render time, such a lot will depend on the edits - anything like color corrections will really extend the render time anyway but the split of load between CPU and GPU is also affected by the type of effects used on the timeline.

Render speed/time is a common question asked on the forum but any exact answer does depend on circumstance. A screen capture of the timeline and a DxDiag might also help members to come up with suggestions.

Same here, after one of updates few months ago editing with some effects and crops is impossible - preview just dying and CPU utilization drop to 2% after few seconds of preview.

Probably this is a bug, becasue PD365 works fine for me with same files.

Anyway, need to change software fast if it won't be fixed asap.

What's your preview resolution set to and what's the resolution and bitrate of your source clip? On many computers you won't be able to scale and preview smoothly at Full HD and above:

It is HD preview, but like I said it works fine for me before one of updates on the same pc and the same settings. (Ryzen 9 3900x and GeForce RTX 2070 Super, file bitrate 120000).

Not much any of us users can do about updates, and it would really help to have a repeatable test to show the performance before and after so that CL tech support could replicate it and forward the issue for resolution.

In the meantime, you might have better luck leaving the preview scale set at one of the default zoom levels rather than manually dragging the corners to resize it, as that can lead to a computationaly-intensive scaling process.

You also might want to change the project's aspect ratio to 1:1 to match your source clip
