Several people on here using similar models. Are you having trouble with it? __________________________________

No troubles.....

Just wondering if this cam is PD8 compatable with Win7.

I have been looking into a HD camcorders for a while to replace my Mini dv Panisonic PV-GS59. I narrowed it down to either the Cannon HFS21 or Panasonic HDC-HS300. I heard Panasonic still holds a bit better in the stablizing Dept. for camcorders.

Hey Jay -

There's no reason your Canon Vixia HF S21, PD & Win7 shouldn't be compatible. The Vixia records in similar formats to my HF S10 (but mine doesn't have native 24P). I'm using Win 7 (64bit) with PD8 & have no issues.

Cheers - Tony

I have the Canon Legria HFS200 (PAL version of the Vixia), which is pretty much the same as the HFS21 without the 64gb of onboard flash memory and the viewfinder. It has two SDHC slots though.

Highlighly recommended and a good deal cheaper!

The HFS200/20/21 is compatible with SVRT with PD8, the Panasonic is not.

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi Jay,

I have had a Vixia HF S21 since April 15th which replaced a HG21 and simply love it. Read some of my comments under Canon Camcorders Now With Native 24p topic.

I almost went with the HFS 20 but the viewfinder on the HF S21 comes in handy if you are shooting in sunlight as the LCD viewfinder is hard to see without a shade added. Also you can rotate the LCD viewfinder and person(s) can watch as you record if that is of interest. With the 2 card slots as Andrew states isn't a justification for the extra 32 GB onboard memory.

I use PD8 with XP.

Cheers

Canon technical dept. told me - except for all the new items added to the HF s21 , or lower newer ones, the imager isn't any different.

no extended dynamic range, no 3ccd or 3cmos, just the newer features around the camera.

why not actually change the imager, or number of imagers, to give an actually better image in the newer models?

may even justify the higher cost for these things.

Just me...
This is the kind of demostration video I love. Panasonic HDC-TM700.
Very detailed on how it works.
Shows GOOD and NOT SO GOOD.
After watching this, I may switch back to the Canon HFS21....
If SVRT works with Canon's Native 24P clips, I'll go with the Canon.

After reading the text description, I'm back to favoring the Canon.
The comments section is very informative, too.

(I'm hung up on the "Focus Ring" on the TM700 I love it, but....why?
Doesn't the Canon have something similar?)

UPDATE: I just pushed the "ORDER" button for a Canon HFS21.
