Thanks for the help! I did it both ways and it was exactly what I was looking for! In hindsight, it seems pretty obvious to use a B&W effect, not sure how I missed that.

I have a 15 second video that I'm trying to start in black and white and have it slowly transition to color. If anybody has ever done this, could you give me a play by play?
