Subsequent clip failure

I am a newbie to video editing. I have Power Director 8. When I play a movie, the first clip runs fine but the second clip displays the scene and the motion stops while the sound continues. The sound continues to the next clip as well, but the display is static with a freeze frame of the start of the second clip. Have I missed something in dropping the clips to the Time Line?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Mark -

Are the two clips the same type? Is there a transition between the two?

That sort of thing might happen with HD clips and an underpowered graphics card. Could you please post the properties of both (clips & GPU)?

Cheers - Tony

I'll have to respond this evening from my home computer, which contains that information.

Thanks.

The video clips were shot in HD 1080 60p. My graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD5730.

Hi Mark -

GPU should be OK, but probably not ideal for HD video editing.

Are your drivers up to date? New drivers released only 6 days ago. Check here if you need to... http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages/psearch.aspx?type=2.4.2&product=2.4.2.3.37&contentType=GPU+Download+Detail&ostype=Select+an+Operating+System+%28OS%29+type&keywords=&items=20

What setting is your preview screen on? Are you getting any juddery playback?

Cheers - Tony

Thanks for the driver update info. I just downloaded it. The preview screen is set on high resolution, real time. If "juddery" means shaky, sometimes I get that type of playback.

Hi Mark,
Please can you provide a full diagnostic of your set up? It is the best method for system analysis and one CyberLink always ask for. PART B from the guide below please.

I was finally able to find time to get the diagnostics, which are attached.

Let me know if the attachment does not open. I can cut and paste if necessary.

Thanks.

Mark -

One thing I noticed is that the driver fro your GPU is version 8.692.1.0 - the current version is 10.8... you can download it here http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon-win7-64.aspx

Captain Kevin will be smiling because he told me exactly the same thing a few months ago

One of the ATI users might advise on which particular downloads are appropriate. Steve? Kevin?

Mark,
Thanks for the diagnostic.

1. Have you shut off Shadow File creation?
2. What is the bitrate of the 1080p 60fps video?
3. what is the source, camera etc please?
4. 4GB of ram isn't sufficient to process 1080p 60fps - you may/will run into processing problems at some stage.

OK. I have downloaded the updates to my video card. I have doubled my RAM, from 4 GB to 8GB. But the vdeo portion of the second and subsequent clips stops while the audio continues. I'm ready to return PowerDirector at this point. Any other suggestions?

The camera I used is a Panasonic HDC-TM700 using 1080 60p.

I hope there is a solution.

Mark
