Magic Music doesn't work

I have Powerdirector 8 build 2220. In version 8 i could use some free Magic Music files. Enough to make some small family movies. In version 8 i cannot use these free music files. How come? Each time i want to use the Magic Music i have to purchase the file. When i close down Powerdirector and start again, the Magic Music doesn't work anymore in my movie, so i need to purchase them again, download them again and have to insert them again.

How can this be fixed?

Hi Dodrain -

This may not be your issue, but I had a similar thing happen (in PD7). On the advice of other forum members, I contacted SmartSound support and they provided me with a link to a file which corrected the problem. Not only that, they did it almost immediately!

The other option would be a reinstall of PD (which contains the SmartSound installer).

Are you using 2220C?

Cheers - Tony

Dear Tony,

Thanks for the quick response. I know that for PD7 there was an update for Smartsound, but for PD8 there isn't, i checked their website.

I use 2220C.

I will try the reinstall first, maybe this will help?

Why 403, what on earth are you playing about with?

You've downloaded the software - correct?
Both parts?
Program and Content?
You install it and apply your activation key - so why on earth are you attempting to download again?

I can understand the confusion over SmartSound and Magic Music - and I would deal with that. First I want you to get yourself sorted with... or tell us correctly what you're actually doing?

Use the guides provided here please:
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/7979.page#34439

Include some screen shots with your next post perhaps.

While you may blame the software - some will read your posts with incredulity and exasperation and then laugh! Please note I didn't curse or use any profanity in my statement there was no need.

.... please don't use curse vulgarities or substitute characters as an abbreviation for them. I know this might appear petty and pedantic but this is a public forum and I apply a strict "NO" policy. I'm sure you are eloquent enough to articulate an issue without resorting to offensive terminology. I dislike deleting posts for minor infractions while at the same time I find writing these explanations really boring and time consuming. I also find it equally tiresome to remove and edit a post just to retain content. The answer is of course "be smart and not dumb" with the use of language.

Quickly do a system restore to a point before this happened.
Then go to Smartsound, and download quicktracks 3090, it works in PD8 just fine.
Now, your SS files are disappearing because you need to "Rebuild" the database after every purchase or SS disc installation through the SS module. Just click, easy. Seems PD does not do it by itself.
Also, I hope you did not pay twice for your files, because if you have the serial number to the file, you go thru the purchase process steps but at some point ( I forget exactly) you touch the "alt" key and the interface changes a bit and the download will start.
It's all in the Smartsound FAQ's, do not be discouraged, Smartsound is a super plug-in, I have 680 SS files! They all work.
I really need to do a tutorial.

Finally, using the SS module again, browse to the SS folder. Copy everything you see.

I bought this software because i thought it was an easy software to use, and that you don't be a software engineer to install it.

After first install the Magic Music didn't work. None of the tunes where in bold. So each time i wanted to use Magic Music in my movie I had to purchase it. Some movies needed more than 1 day to work on, so I needed to close the program and start it again a few days later.

But when I started the program again, all the Magic Music I bought where GONE! So i could start over again, purchaes the Magic Mucis + inserting them at the right place.

After a post on this forum, i received the answer to remove PD 8 completly and reinstall it again. I used the DOWNLOAD link in the e-mail that came with my orderconfermation. From then I don't have PD8 anymore.

Maybe you understand my frustration about this program. All features should work in the program, not only 80%.

Also the Esellerate program that is launched each time you make a purchase of the Magic Music gives errors.

I hope i can find some solution about this problem soon, I need to finish some movies.

If the Magic Music worked properly, as it should, i didn't had to post this question.

I also have send a support request to Cyberlink about this issue, but no response.

Dodrain,
As Barry has pointed out to you some basic instruction you may want to look up some more of his advice and guidance on SmartSound files which you purchase.
1. You save them to a location on your hard drive
2. You have them available again should you need to reload PD
3. You save software and data you purchase off the web - it is your responsibility to manage your computer.
4. There is no need to be a software "engineer" to run PD.
5. Yes, we will give you advice on how to edit and use PD, we are NOT CyberLink Technical Support, we are video editors.
NOTE: When you uninstall PD it removes all data related to the software found in your Program Files.

I provided you with a guide. Please take a look. I note you quoted my posts in your reply. I asked questions in that post. Try answering and provide information rather than comments. Unless we have the information we can not assist. My opinion at the moment is, the issue is of your own making and not the program's.

1. After installing PD 8, the free Magic Music tunes weren't in bold, so i had not the free Magic Music tunes as promised on the website of Cyberlink.

2. To be able to make movies with PD 8, i had to purchase Magic Music Tunes, because none of them were free.

3. All Magic Tunes that i purchased are on my hard disk, PD doesn't find then when PD is run.

4. Each time i restart the program, the Magid Music Tunes i had purchased where gone in PD8. Needed to reinstall or purchase them again and insert them again in the movies i was working on. This is verry annoying. The reinstall function of PD doesn't allways work, the ST-number of the Magic Music is not allways found in the database PD contacts, so i needed to purchase them again. This is really expensive.

5. I asked support at Cyberlink and this forum, from Cyberlink there was no response. In this forum i got the advice to do a reinstall of the program.

6. So, followed the advice and uninstall the program, then tried to reinstall the program via the link that came with the order confirmation.

7. I have saved the software and data i have purchased from the web, so I manage my software. But when i want to redownload the software, to be sure to have a bugfree version, this isn't possible then i get error 403 on the server where i want to download the software.

8. I'm not a IT specialist, so when i buy a program, I like it that it works out of the box, and not to wonder about difficult steps I need to make to make the program work. Without all kind of actions Magic Music doesn't work as it should. So you need to be a sofware engineer to make PD work completly as it should.

But still i don't have any solution on how i can install the latest PD 8 version that i have purchased.

Correct, some are bold and others are not. There is a small selection of SmartSound files to chose from and has been the case for some time.

There is Royalty Free Music and on http://www.Seemyworldonvideo.com you'll find a number of guides (lots of tools other editors use and recommend), under the Extras' page, to where you can get music from and use it for free so long as you comply with the Creative Commons License.

Excellent - so you're storing it under a specific folder on your hard drive.

There is a capability to bring in purchased SmartSound files - you're doing something wrong - basic error. there is no need to re-purchase an item. Provide the images to show use the files and the location. We will need to walk you through the correct procedure.

Yes, I understood that when you wrote it last time.

For starter you do NOT reinstall from a download link. You go to the download software and reinstall. The only reason you'd need to re-download is if you've got a corrupted file and this isn't the case here. You're getting confused and selecting the wrong action.

there is a timelimit on any download link and the password and security changes. This would not throw up that 403, however I'm going to presume, a) you don't need to download b) the block is by your own security settings for cookies.

I know what you mean, however the program works and does it well unfortunately you're making some errors using a PC.

I thought you installed it... have you now uninstalled it and cant get it to run. So my questions is what method did you employ to uninstall?

Please provide images of the screen - what you're looking at - this would really help and not get or give wrong information.

I still think the issue is of your own making.

Note: I have removed the quotes from your posts because it just makes reading this thread awkward and long.

My reply

Maybe I expressed myself wrong, but i meant that NONE of the Magic Music tunes were bold. So i could not use ANY of them. That is why i thought the installationfile i received from Cyberlink was not complete. So I wanted to install a new file to test if this could solve my problem concerning the missing Magic Music tunes.

What I did allready now:

I used the standard uninstall method of Windows Vista via the configuration screen - Remove ad programs.

I have installed the installation file, that i had kept on my computer when i purchased PD 8, again. But with the same result no bold Magic Music tunes. So i think there is a problem with the installation file. Corrupt? Thats why i wanted to download a new one. During the installation the program asks me if i want to install the Smartsound wich i agree, but wit no result.

I thank you for the effort you make to help me sort out these problem. But the installation procedure should be made much easier. I have used older versions of PD and never had these problems installing the software. All went wrong after upgrading to PD 8 and the problems with Smartsound. In PD 7 using Smartsound was made much easier.

Just a thought, is it possible that you are not installing the PD8 content pack part of the installation? Remember, PD8 has two seperate parts to the installation and both need to be installed. Some of the issues in your initial post almost point to that.

I only received one installation file after i purchased PD 8. And during the installation of PD 8 i'm being asked if Smartsound needs to be installed.

I never heard of the existance of a second file to be installed.

That could well be the issue.

Dodrain -

When you downloaded the "PDR8_Program..." file, where did you put it? After you installed PDR8, that file would still be on your PC. Do you know where it is now?

At the time, did you also download a file called "PDR8_Content..."? If so, that file should be on your PC with the other one. If those files are there, it will be easy to solve your problem.

Please look for them to see if you have them available.

Hi Dodrain,

It certainly appears that you have not installed the Contents Pack, the link should have been provided in your confirmation email from Digital River.

PowerDirector is now provided in 2 parts
PDR8 Program - 240MB
PDR8 Contents - 449MB

If you have difficulty in obtaining the Contents Pack, because your download period has expired, contact Technical Support, if you still have download problems, contact Dafydd and he will assist you.

Then uninstall PDR8
Reinstall and when asked if you want SmartSound installed, select YES
When PDR8 Program has finished installing, open the program and enter your activation key.
Close PDR8 then install the Contents Pack

Open PDR8 and click on the Directors Chair icon, top left
Click on Edit
Click on Magic Tools
Click on Magic Music
Click on the SmartSound Tab
Click on Rebuild SmatSound Database

Every time you add additional SmartSound files, you must rebuild the database

Robert

To all off you above,

The content install program is missing. Must be some error with the downloading I don't know.

The installationprocess never says you need two files. Maybe something those software engineers can think off for the next release.

So what can I do next to solve this problem?

At some point, you must have downloaded and installed the Content part of PD8... or you would never have had these files available. In version 2220 the download was in 2 parts.

Dodrain - Do you have these installer files on your PC (the ones Robert listed above). Yes or no??? Unless you deleted them, the answer should be "Yes".

If you are able to locate them on your PC & re-install the Contents pack, you will get your original SmartSound files back.

If the previous installer files are gone, you'd need to contact CyberLink Customer Support.

Cheers - Tony

Hi Dodrain,

Just to clarify the download method, the program is provided in 2 parts, each part is a separate download, downloading PDR8 program, does NOT automatically download the Contents Pack.

The confirmation email you received from Digital River would have provided links to both parts, this would have been provided as two separate links, or one link that when accessed, provides the 2 files for download.

As advised above in previous posts, if you have difficulty with the download, contact Technical Support.
