PowerDirector Timeline setting 30fps/24fps is it 30fps24fps or 29.97/23.97fps?

As title is suggesting. The timeline setting in PowerDirector only has 30fps and 24fps. But is it 29.97/23.97 or actual 30/24fps?

That all depends on whether you've selected to use drop frames or not under Preferences | General:

If you're not using drop frames (as shown above), you'll produce to 24 or 30fps. If you've set that option to Yes, then you'll produce to 23.97 or 29.97fps.

That's just not true, 24fps won't even have a drop frame timecode as it's not applicable. So you can't set to Yes for 24fps and then you'll produce to 23.97 as written. There is no Drop Frame standard for 23.976 fps because there’s no amount of frame numbers that can be dropped from the timecode to make it fit neatly into real time, unlike 29.97. Furthermore, changing this feature to yes or no for NTSC regions does nothing to produced output, sync wise, duration wise, nothing. The setting simply provides an accurate time scale in the timeline.

For best results, adjust your "Produce" options to mimic your input video specific fps or use "Profile Analyzer" to recommend settings and then verify.

So what is your suggestion on using 30fps/29.976fps footage or higher fps in a 23.976fps to get that.... "dreamy" feel?

or 60fps DJI Drone footage in 23.976fps timeline?

Remember, filming at 24fps is much different than filming at 60fps and producing at 24fps. Yes, both files will have 24fps but how that is achieved is entirely different and the playback viewing pleasure is also affected. You can always "Produce" your timeline to 24fps, regardless of what video source fps you have put in the timeline and whether you have dropframe of yes or no set. In the case of 60fps source in the timeline produced at 24fps, PD will simply remove frames from the 60fps to achieve 24fps. There is no frame interpolation used so these removed frames to achieve 24fps can cause jerky type playback as no integer multiple exists, 60/24. Simplistically, for every frame kept, one needs to remove 1.5 frames to keep the same interval, since a 1/2 frame can't be removed, PD will sometimes remove 1 consecutive frames, sometimes 2 consecutive frames, to achieve the 24fps. This is what causes a jerky appearance, especially in motion scenes during playback, how desirable is an individual preference.

Simply start with a canned profile similar to your source or use "Profile Analyzer" to match other source video attributes if possible and then modify this by creating a custom profile in the "Produce" module and set the fps you wish from those available, see pic. All source video in your timeline, be it 30fps, 60fps, ..... will all be converted by removing frames to achieve your 24fps output setting. View produced file and see if frame reduction from source is pleasing to your eyes.
