Can't seem to use Nvenc for H.265 anymore

I'm not sure if it's the latest Nvidia driver or something else. Is there a basic set of steps I can check to see why I can't use HEVC/H.265 when rendering/producing? Is there anything else I should be installing or updating?

We'd need to know more details to help. First, give us more info on what you mean by you can't produce to HEVC.

Next, please share a short clip here using the Attachments button below the forum's text box, otherwise use the MediaInfo online tool, drag your clip there then click on the Download MediaInfo report button and attach it here so we can see the clip specs.

Finally, please follow the steps in the Read Me Before Posting guide and share the DxDiag test results so we can see the technical details of your computer (I'm assuming you're using the Windows version of PD).

What I can tell you is that if I try to produce a video using the h.265 file format, it will work using .mkv or .m2ts but not .mp4.

I am using Windows, I attached the DCDiag. It's a very large video so I'll have to create something small from scratch.

Thanks for the DxDiag file. It shows that the crash is coming from RichVideo64.exe which is a PD component.

We still need more info on the clip. "MP4" is simply a container and that doesn't tell us anything at all about what's inside. If you don't want to share a clip here, you can try converting it into a more compatible format using a free app like Handbrake or VirtualDub2.

I guess I'm not clear when you say the "clip". It's a project with a lot of videos and clips on the timeline and I'm trying to produce a single video from that. That's when it won't let me select .mp4 for H.265/HVEC. If I can't create the clip, how do I send it?

I was referring to one of your source clips on the timeline, but I didn't think through my answer very carefully as seeing one of them won't necessarily help. Basically I was trying to solve a different issue than the one you're actually having. My apologies!

You still haven't explained what happens when you try to produce to HEVC MP4. Does PD crash or is it just that hardware encoding is unavailable? Have you tried using the Profile Analyzer to suggest or create a custom profile based on your timeline clips? Attaching a screenshot of the Produce page might help.

The NVENC option goes gray and unavailable. It won't let me pick it anymore. But if I change to the others like MKV, it becomes available again.

Look back about 4 posts, I had posted a link with the most logical reason and how to correct.

Ah the regedit, sorry I missed that. Been going back and forth with some other stuff.

But yes, that worked! Thank you!

Question, any idea why that happens?
